Default what would be a good, effective alarm?? Air horn alarm? haha

After having my car broken into this week and having my alpine double din dvd player stolen, I wanna get a good alarm. Not one that just makes a little noise. You know what im talking about, the one that you hear all the time when walking through packed parkinglots. Almost everyone now days just brushed those off cus it seems like they can just go off by a bird pooping on the car. I was wondering if anyone has rigged an air horn system to their alarm. like a good truck horn, or even better, a train horn (not that you would have much room to mount the train horns.) Cus if someone were to get into a car and have a train horn going off...im sure it will bring some attention, and probably put the person into cardiac arrest. I figure you could rig the horn trigger to the alarm with a good pulsing relay, and have it go off like some horns when ya hit the panic button, maybe not quite as much. but yea, anyways. i want a good alarm system. any suggestions?

The Hella Supertones are pretty damn loud. If you can rig those up with an aftermarket alarm to sound when it goes off...I guarantee you you'll be getting some pretty nasty letters from people around you with ear problems, bleeding eardrums, etc...

When I press the panic button on my key fob with the Supertones in there; I can barely stand it myself while standing about 20 feet away. It works to find the car in a packed parking lot though

Alot of people have done this and they work great. Sux about the break-in though.

Hooked up hellas to the alarm, 118db there, 120db with the alarm, and extra 120db sirens inside the car too. Best thing you can have is a QUALITY alarm.

I install stuff cheap.

By the time the alarm goes off, they have what they want and will be gone.

When my car got broken into (for the second time in a month ), the dog started barking and by the time I got out of bed and to the window, the theif was gone. From when the dog heard the window break, to when I got to the window could not have been more than 1.25 minutes. Most of these guys are "professionals" and they know how to do it fast and effectively. An alarm might scare off the amatuers though like kids or crackheads looking for a quick buck.

In reality, your best option in to kill them on the spot. Or rather have a system that will kill them on the spot. I suggest fire. A couple of propane nozzles under the side skirts should do the trick.

I was in the same boat as you about thinking of getting louder horns, but its like a lot of people said most of the time by the time you notice their gone.

However I have thought of an alarm that will give a really bad shock unless you unarm it. Kinda like a taser. Now that would work like a champ and be sweet. Now somebody with time on their hands get to work. I would be willing to pay top dollar.

^^^My supertones replace the stock horns and sound when the alarm goes off. Accidently opening my trunk with my key when the alarm is armed is painfull. Only took one time making that mistake to remember to always disarm the alarm before using my key...

....
You obviously havent heard supertones up close, let alone in the car!

I would bet money that you could not stand in 10 feet from supertones for more than 5-10 seconds without covering your ears . That should be enough time for permanent damage.

They already have an alarm system that does this. I forget where I've seen it but when armed the body or just specified parts are electrified. And if not, I'd be game for an electrified body too.

does anyone know of a relay to make the supertones pulse with an aftermarket alarm? i have the 4-tone style alarm now. gonna throw some cheap piezo horns on with that, and wanted to make the supertones pulse too, like with the stock alarm.
