Default Aviation nerds, check out my cousin's hobby. (pics)

My cousin builds fully functional flight simulator/cockpits in his house, for fun.

This is his newest project:

Just dropping by the boneyard to get a few 747 parts.

I can has cockpit?

Pulling the cockpit on four dollies to position behind the patio doors at the rear of the house.

Cockpit mated to the house, repainted the same color, COMM antenna and wipers added, restoration beginning.

Soon this will become a new simulator, I can't wait to see more progress pics of this.

He has another in his basement (his second actually), they're pretty cool. Unfortunately last time I was there it wasn't running at the time, but it's fully functional now, here's some pics of the basement simulator:

Just for fun as far as I know, he's been doing this type of stuff since he was a kid. I remember going over to his house when I was little and it was nothing but electronics, circuit boards, gadgets, etc...

Well he has no kids, and I don't think he really cares about having a big house (evident in the pics) or a sports car. He works for Rockwell Collins, so I know he must get some hook ups from that.

I don't think he really cares too much about flying, I don't think he even has a pilots license (not sure). He just likes building stuff and messing with electronics.

You would be surprised how it feels even without a motion base. If you have all visual reference of the outside world removed, and all you see are the images of the flight simulator, your body will be tricked into thinking you are actually moving.

Holy hell. I repair avionics for a living, but I couldn't imagine having to run all-new wiring to conncet all those parts, much less make them work properly.

Where does the power come from when the cockpit is detached?

Also, how much did that run him?
