Cool air conditioning hose leak on my 03wrx

so i have no ac in my car. when i turn it on it blows hot air. i took it in to subaru today and the mechanic showed me where the leak was at. It's the topside hose on the driver side of the car. i saw this green stuff all dried up like it was leaking so i assume that that is it. anyways they told me that that hose is $400 friggin dollars plus maintenance. i was like peace out cuz i don't want to pay that much for a small hose and come to you guys on here that have experienced that same leak of some sort before and have replaced that hose because the line was leaking. their mechanic there said that i could find a used one somewhere but it will probably leak too. what do you guys/gals recommend i do?

It is called a discharge hose and is about 120 bucks new. It comes with new o rings already installed on the hose. buy one, install it. It is absurdly simply to do. It is held on by two 10mm bolts. Then just go get your ac vacuumed and recharged somewhere.

That pipe is like $150 new. You can use the WRX one OR the STI one as they fit the same but the STI one has a rubber tube portion to it. You unbolt the old and bolt up with new, just make sure you lube up the O-rings on either end. It's a butt-simple 10 minute process...no lie....I've done it twice. You will PROBABLY want to replace the dryer as well. Its $80 new and must be gotten from the dealer. You could skip this, but you are taking a big chance. This is a 30 minute install. Remove the radiator brackets, move the top of the radiator aft, get out the old one off the condensor and put in the new one. This is really a two person job where one will hold the radiator aft while you work on it. A full recharge MUST be done at any shop with an AC machine as they will vacuum the system and recharge it for $80ish. You CANNOT do this with a $10 can of freon from Pep Boys!

is this the same line that the STI TMIC would rub after installation on a WRX?

i need to replace that as i never bent it out of the way and there is now a big 'C' dent in the line

you didn't happen to install a larger top mount intercooler did you.

I remember when my buddy bragged about his TMIC it was so big it rubbed against the ac hose then poof. No more freon.
