Default PermaGrinn's 2008 AW STI Stage 2 protuned @ Yimi Sport

i joined nasioc after i purchased my 2008 aw grb back in jan of 2008. never really made a thread specifically showing my car as there wasn't much done to it. i recently protuned my car at yimi sports in santa clarita. with my aem cai, tanabe tbe, tomei el headers and up pipe, yimi was able to squeeze out 300whp and 358wtq.

if i had to pick just one single modification that i felt was the best for the car, i would have to pick the protune done by yimi sports. i had driven around in cobb's ots stage 2 tune for around a year. initially, the ots stage2 map smoothed out the car somewhat. however, the tune doen by yimi made my car feel like a different beast. the car is super smooth no matter what mode i drive in. the car accelerates effortlessly and probably needs some brake upgrades to keep up with the power side. best of all, the fuel economy went up by about 2mpg! on the ots stage2 tune, i was getting close to 18mpg, i would be lucky to get anything beyond that on my dialy driving. my driving behavior didn't change and i've been getting 19-20mpg after the tune.

heres some pics for your viewing enjoyment~ i'll start with some of my favorites taken by luis3rd~

i had wanted this mid hatch spoiler ever since i saw the edm catalog feature it. then a buddy told me he saw it on ebay and i just had to get it. there was no chance for me to see this product first hand as the vender was not in my local area. so i took a big chance and ponied up the $200 and bought the thing. i got it painted and installed for $150 at a near by body shop. when i dropped off the spoiler to be painted we put the spoiler up against the hatch to test fit. it seemed like it wasn't a perfect fit but its too late for me. i wasn't about to waste another $50 to ship it back... the spoiler was supposed to be attached simply with double sided tape. well.... it wasn't quite that simple. when we tested it against the hatch there was a gap of around 1/8-1/4 inch wide on the bottom side... the body shop ended up using some silicon sealant to close that gap... the spoiler looks good from afar, but on closer inspection you can see the fitment imperfections...

this hatch spoiler may not be in everyone's taste. some will cry rice and ugly others may like it. i personally love the way it subtly adds the the rear end but i can admit that it could have been designed better and perhaps more angular. i've a couple ideas in my mind to change up the appearance a bit...

anyway, be kind all you rice police out there~

the car's no where near the picture i have envisioned in my head. like everyone else, its a work in progress. the next few things that i want to get for my sti are sti pink springs, crawford carbon fiber wing, stoptech bbk with st60 and st22 calipers, sways links etc.

Love the theory of the mid spoiler. Maybe someone will come out with one that has better fitment. Until then, looks great to me.

^^^ thanks for the support guys!

i really want to upgrade my brakes next. with the new found power of this car, i can already feel the stopping power is lacking somewhat. gonna be doing a stage 1 brake up grade with stoptech ss lines, performance pads, and rotors. i've had my eyes on the stoptech st60 with 355mm rotors for front and st22 with 345mm rotors for the rear. gotta save up some for the bbk...

BBks are really over rated and not worth it IMO, but look sick no doubt. I think you'll be perfectly happy with said upgrades.

Nice car, and super nice shots!

i got equal length. i didnt coat or wrap'em. actually, i should say i "tried" wrapping it with the tomei supplied paperlike fiberglass wrap. i spent 3 hours wrapping it til 4am and when the installers looked at it, they pretty much said its not gonna work. it didn't dry correctly and was too loose. could catch on fire if it comes apart.

word to the wise, its probably worth the $50 that the shop charges to wrap the stupid thing. at the end of my 3 hour ordeal, i was covered in fiber glass chards and was itching like a friggen monkey with fleas....

what's the midhatch wing supposed to do? i'm still debating if i like it or not. fitment is perfect, but it doesn't flow with any of the other lines...but then again, it's a subaru

i would totally sell it to you but i think you'd be better off finding someone local as the spoiler would be oversized shipping and will be very expensive to ship.

to be honest, i dunno if its supposed to have any functions other than the aesthetics appeal... and even that is subjective.... just be warned that though it looks to fit well, there was a gap that had to be filled on the bottom side which isn't really noticeable until you go right up to it and look under the mid spoiler.

i had some extra black vinyl and decided to try covering my brake vent duct in front of the front wheels. the common way to change the color is to either get the carbon fiber ducts or simply just paint them. i wasn't sure that i wanted to keep the ducts black permanently, so vinyl was the obvious choice for me.

i covered only the inside portion of the vent, leaving the boarders the original color.

crappy cell phone pics for now, better pics to follow. there are some details that could have been done better which i intend on fixing when i get some more time.

bought an M3 trunk lip spoiler on ebay" target="_blank">ebay for $30 and mounted it to fill the gap on the wing. had to cut to fit the top. though its not a perfect fit, it fits the budget more so than the jdm piece at this point...

the jdm piece that costs around $200 looks like this~
