HI guys,
My uncle is one of those who was a victim of Typhoon Ondoy. There are a lot of people who needs help as of this time. Please read: Philippines Overwhelmed by Disaster Here is how you can send over your assistance: edit by jack: the American Red Cross http://www.redcross.org/ Below is my personal account as my searched for my Uncle last saturday. Reposted from Subaru Club of the Philippines I went to Provident Village this morning in search for my Uncle and his family. I took pictures of my walk from Sm Marikina where I parked by Subie. I'll be uploading them shortly. I saw people camping out in make shift tents on Marcos bridge as their house beside the river was already filled with mud. A hundred people were cleaning up their stuff, salvaging what they can. Along the way, I saw cars stranded and filled with mud. Some owners have already started cleaning in the hopes of getting a move on with their lives. I was lucky to be able to hitch on the barangay vehicle that brought me to the school where the evacuees stayed. I spoke to the captain and looked for the list of people. Unfortunately, there was none. I saw people very hungry, thirsty and in need of clothes. Mud was just about everywhere. There was a long line in the smart booth. There is no globe signal in the area and my uncle was unreachable. As I made my walk along Bonifacio, traffic was bad as all the cars were in the direction of provident. People from both sides had their belongings with them. Plastic bags filled with whatever they can carry, all with mud. These are not ordinary people, I can see that they are probably ab or b. When I got to the gate, I saw this very touching moment between family members. Fil chi family were hugging their relatives who went to rescue them. That could have been anyone of us and we are lucky that we were spared from this ordeal. Members of the marines and navy were preset. I saw some mmda people and equipment as well. They were clearing out the roads already so more help can get thru. As I walked along the streets to my Uncle's house, the morbid thought of him in trouble coudlnt escape my mind. I had flashbacks of him, happy memories when I was still young. I just hope everyone was ok. When I got to their house, I saw the mud all the way up to the roof of the 2nd floor. My uncle and aunt are both close to 70. I immediately doubted my positive outcome. I saw the honda car in mud. There was a dog inside and he looked very hungry. I gave him a pear, part of the food ration I had in my back pack. After several shouts , no one answered. My heart was racing a bit as I looked for them. I saw their neighbors from opposite side of the road looking at me. I asked them where the my uncle was. As they just stared at me blank, this guy approached me and said "Si Jaime, nakita ko sila. Ok sila lahat. Nag evacuate sila madaling araw na ngayon umaga." Hearing those news gave me a big sigh of relief. The fellow later told me that my Uncle Jaime even went back this morning to get some things. I asked about their condition and the neighbor said that my uncle assured him that they were all fine. Later on, I called up my family to tell them of the good news. We have been worried since the start of the flood and we just couldnt get any info during that time. The 2 1.5 liter gatorade, 1 water bottle and a half dozen or so pears and apples I had were given to the men who helped provident. I saw them near the gate, tired from hours of rescuing. I know its not much but that's the best I could give at that time. Rescue efforts are still ongoing in Marikina, Novaliches, Pasig and Rizal. Relief packs are not enough as there's just so much people who need it. There's much to do and unfortunately only a few people are doing what needs to be done. ![]() The teddy bear reminds me that it could have been one of us. ![]() Is this a motorimage subie? Di ba lahat sa subies nila may Subaru infront? This had so much mud inside and was swept by the raging flood waters. ![]() ![]() ![]() Taxi overtuned due to the water that came out from one of the main pipes found on right side of the street. Cars were all over the place! I saw mud marks all the way up to the 2nd floor. Neighbor told me my uncle moved to their neighbors 3rd floor when water rised. They eventually evacuated around 2am. ![]() Members of our elite Philippine Marines who I earlier spoke to. From what I remember from the tv coverage and radio, they were never mentioned as being part of the rescue operations. ![]() ![]() Operator said he has no choice but to clear the street so rescue can go thru. ![]() Tired military personnel, a few of the heroes who rushed to help. ![]() Life goes on, the clean up starts for some. ---

Im not the one asking for money but our country needs help. Again, please verify first the organizations in question.
ABS-CBN : http://www.abs-cbn.com/ http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/09...w-you-can-help Owned by the Lopez family and the number one tv station network in the Philippines. They are at the forefront of relief operations for almost every tragedy/disaster in the Philippines. Subaruclub.ph : http://subaruclub.ph/forum/index.php?topic=6161.0 The only Subaru Club on our coutry fully supported by the only Subaru dealer in the Philippines, Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. http://www.motorimage.net/PH/home/ MotorImage also handles the Subaru brand in most of Asia. MFB: Thats me, Im a customer of Ben Sablehous of Subaru Hodges. You can verify my identity with him. I post more at www.subaruforester.org http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...ers/18775.html Whatever help you guys can give is appreciated. Please course thru Redcross http://www.redcross.org/ that's where you will be most comfortable with. We at Subaruclub.ph have our own fund raising and relief efforts. This was just my idea to try and get help overseas. Thanks Last edited by Jack ffr1846; 09-28-2009 at 11:04 AM. Reason: jack edited for content and to insert red cross url |

Being part Filipino myself, I guess I have to be the cultural ambassador here. While your intentions are good, people in the American Subaru forums don't really take too kindly to people with low post numbers asking for money. It's just the way things work over here.
This is terrible and the people over there are really hurting which I know for a fact. If anyone wants to donate to a typhoon relief charity, I suggest the Philippine Red Cross as they will most likely have the lowest overhead. |
