If I was allowed to spend 12K on a rally car right now, this or a PGT car is where I would be spending it.

This is a GREAT car for someone to get their first season out of the way, and should be a relatively low cost + easy repairs... as long as they don't shunt it.

Great car, and great color. I really can't bump this thread enough.

Ps. Any reason not to put the Phase II EJ251 into the car? EJ22 isn't a bad engine (same engine, IIRC with 253K in my RallyX car), but it is just curious.

PPs. Is the AC missing?!

I didn't do the EJ25 because the engine/power was the absolute last thing I wanted improve. Of course the AC is gone, it's a race car

As for that weld, Doug does good work but no matter what, it's not uncommon to see some welds in hard to reach places a little unpretty or unground compared to others. That doesn't particularly mean the penetration or break strength is any less though. Here's another shot of it plus the other three on that side of the main roll bar.

MIG welded cages are very common, if anything more popular than TIG but no less or more safe. TIG is not be all, end all superior to MIG. There's a lot of variables at stake and they're almost two diferent uses completely. 90% of your rally cars and club level circuit cars will MIG because it's easier, faster and less expensive.

Prodrive would TIG Subaru World Rally Team body shells but they have 4 men working on a shell and each costs around 70,000 EUROS to build. Ultimately it's a preference of how much do you want to spend? A TIG welded cage can easily double its cost. It'll be ultra sexy though.

I'll post a few more pics with the handbrake later tonight.

Sweet! Don't anyone knock the engine, I had a blast in my old 1.8L rally car with 72hp to the wheels, and this car has to be lighter and put out more power. Nice prep!

Fantastic job with the build... I really wish I could swing the amount as I am sure it is worth every penny (and then some!). Good luck man!
