Exclamation Hooters Robbery FOILED! JW2 + daughter = crimefighting team!

Going to the Randall's on Westheimer & Gessner, get out of the car and unbuckle my 2.5-year-old daughter and search for a cart. I hear girls screaming, and see a 6'4" middle aged black guy running...er, trying to run....away from the Hooter's that shares a parking lot. He runs past us, followed slowly by the Hooter's manager and 3 Hooter's Girls.

I yell, "What happened?" with some urgency. The girls screamed, "He robbed us!". The manager was on the cordless phone with HPD but it cut out.

JW2 throws daughter in her carseat & buckles her up, while maintaining visual on perp who is jay-running across Westheimer heading south. He stops running at the Border's bookstore and walks like nothing happened. We hit the lights & traffic PERFECTLY and catch up to him behind the Chevron station there.

[Here's where I do stupid things and endanger myself/family]

Full COPS-style rollup, "STOP!", fingering the safety off of my .45ACP in my lap (in the dark).
Guy yells, "Bitch, I didn't do nuthing, get outta my way!" and he walks strongly towards Gessner still heading southbound. I flip around and drive onto Gessner where I see HPD at the Pappa's BBQ across the street....2 or 3 squad cars are usually there at any given time having dinner, and they had gotten the call and had pedestrian-stopped the first black guy they see---- a 60 year old man who totally did not match the description. I honk and flash lights and shout..."That's the guy!!"

Officer releases the old man and short foot chase (dude was TIRED from running from Hooters) and put the guy in cuffs. Guy says "hey, I was just at the bookstore, I didn't do nuthin'". I tell HPD officer I had visual of him since leaving the Hooters, and the guy FLIPS OUT in the squad car, screaming and banging his head on the seat cage. Cop says, "Haha I think he is realizing he got caught!". Exchange info from ID, cop thanks me and says I can leave.

I drive back over to the Hooters and tell the manager that they caught him, and show him the cell phone pic I snapped of the guy in cuffs. Hooters girls thank me and manager writes me a "20 wings on us" card for next time. Irony-- this is my FIRST TIME inside of a Hooter's restaurant . HPD drives up a few minutes later with perp in backseat, positive ID by manager and Hooter's waitress.

Cliff Notes--- JW2 sees tail end of robbery, chases suspect, endangers family, but gets his arrest. Informal count-- 11 arrests to date.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not rip me for chasing a suspect with my daughter in the car, I KNOW it was stupid and wasn't thinking about it at the time. She was saying, "Get him Daddy!" from the backseat, who am I to say no? I do regret it now. But we are safe.

Geez, good job man. Ever since I've gotten my chl I haven't seen anything that made me have to "act" for the safety of others, how ever before I got it, there were more than a few times when I wish I had it.

I have one, but it's a .22LR and I don't trust rimfires like that. Taurus PT145 Millenium Pro.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I have faith that if hell broke out, you would have bailed or been very accurate.

Well done JW, next time I see you, I will buy you dinner. I still think you should move closer to TJ.

Not ripping you, but at least your 2 1/2 year old daughter knows what is right and what is wrong. However, you are 'active' in your 'one man super awesome neighborhood watch program in HD' [/generic TV's random Doppler radar names]. Either way have a good National Night Out day, even though yours started early.

Ricer CN: NICE KILL!
