just got the car out of the body shop, and on the way home it starts making very ugly, loud knocking sounds. Iv'e heard some minor piston slap, but this sounds like rods. Portland, Oregon area, Help/suggestions/ideas???

Was it making the noise when you left the body shop? Or did the noise develop after you picked it up from the body shop and were driving for a few miles? |

Piston slap, which it made when going into body shop. The knocking started on the way home.

Not to sound like a jerk, but if it had motor problems AND needed body work, why did you fix it?
I am sure you love the car, but you could probably pick up a used 02-04 WRX cheaper than fixing yours with a blown motor and needing body work... |

I've never heard blatant piston slap from a stock block EJ205. Sounds like you were knocking before and it's grown into a larger issue.

When you say piston slap are you speaking of cold start up? Then disappears after warm up? If so maybe the body shop decided to have some fun with your car while it was there and pushed it a little to hard.
