Hi all, a bunch of my friends have subarus and I currently own an M3. However, I am highly interested in picking up a 93-95 impreza sedan for the winter months and daily driver. I've heard good things about them but would like to hear from actual subaru owners on this forum.
Are the older models the 1.8L motor? Only FWD? WHat year did the AWD start?

I think fwd was an option until 95 or 96.

Not a whole lot goes wrong with them. Try to get one with the least rust possible. Some leak oil, but it's not hard at all to reseal the engines. We have a 93 Impreza AWD sedan as a beater car in our subie collection. It's great, never any trouble and it's getting close to 200K miles.

Good cars all around, you may not want the 1.8 its a bit on the slow-sluggish-low HP side. Particularly coming from a M3. Id look into the 2.2L awd Impreza or Legacy that are pretty much all over the PA-NJ-DE area. Like 69sub said look out for the rust......Lower front fenders where the fender and rocker come togather, and rear quaters where the bumper and quater meet. If there is no visible rust there give it a good rap with your knuckles on those spots, you will know if its bad!!
