Hello all, this is my first post after searching threads for a while and i have a bunch of noobie questions. please respond.
My engine mods as of now are an aftermarket Invidia uppipe downpipe, Greddy Evo 2 catback exhuast, Cobb V2 accessport, stock EJ257 shortblock. Last month I spun a rod baring in my 2.0L block and decided to go with a new ej257 block. After block was installed found out the stock td04 turbo was bad. I decided to upgrade the td04 and purchased a Blouch td05 20g 8cm, big TurboXs tmic, Detshwerks 750cc injectors, and walbro fuel pump. I am hoping the parts get here in time for Tim Bailey to Protune the car! I was looking to run the car in the 19-21psi range making 320 to 350whp on a mustang dyno, and was wandering if you guys had some suggestion regarding intakes, turbo inlets, ebcs, bpvs, or if the stock ones would be find? Please respond quickly because Tim Bailey will be here on October 17th and I wanted to get the minimum of what I needed to reach my goals safely before he tunes. Thanks Khyree

Mustang dynos read really low so I wouldn't hope for a certain whp number, but the 20g will be plenty of kick regardless of what number you are actually hitting. I'm not an expert so research too, but for inlets most of the popular brands are fine, just get one that won't collapse which most newer ones don't anymore. Grimmspeed is a popular brand for the ebcs and they've never steered me wrong with any other products. The stock bpv should be fine for under 22psi, but that's like the threshold. Maybe something from tial or another big name brand would be good, I'm not really familiar with aftermarket BPV's but any reputable company thats recirc would probably be ok.

Thanks for the respond bjwk89. Whats your opinion on just sticking with the stock intake, bcs, and turbo inlet or would you suggest i upgrade one or all of them for the 20g?

in order to make power you need to keep that turbo fed with air...
you should get an after market intake and turbo inlet pipe.. for the inlet pipe just go with any that wont crush or calaps.. intake ill go with the inject... best hp increased with and with/out a tune.. |

The stock intake is probably fine, a lot of people rip the stock inlet though, so that might need to be changed. My tuner's friend runs the stock intake with a high flow filter on a dom 3, and they say all of us up north are weird for automatically thinking we need a new intake off the bat. If you want to do a front mount you'll need one though. The stock bcs is a little iffy. I run an EWG with a manual boost controller instead. That setup was recommended by my tuner and I got the MBC dirt cheap used and it works fantastic.

Unless the 20g requires a bigger inlet you'd probably be able to get away with it. The only thing the dom 3 guy had changed was turbo, fuel pump, injectors, and top mount, so I'd guess you would be ok to run the 20g without changing those things. You might be able to make some gains with a new intake and whatnot, but it's not absolutely needed. You wouldn't get near the 400whp (i think?) with the 20g, so the stock intake is typically good enough. High flow panel filter is up to you, many people love them, many people thing they don't filter enough and garbage gets in your engine.

I'm a huge fan of grimmspeed, they're unit looks pretty sweet and it's plug and play. It requires tuning but they show you how their unit is superior to generic ones.
edit: talk to your tuner though, i was going to get the grimmspeed ebcs but my tuner just said to go with a manual boost controller, your tuner might have a specific preference too. |

Ok so the stock intake should be fine? The stock turbo inlet should be fine? Stock bpv should be fine? The stock bcs is iffy with the 20g?

BPV and Intake should be fine. Inlet is fine but you can get a bit of a performance upgrade by going aftermarket. Definitely get a different bcs.

Ok got the turbo, intercooler, injectors and fuel pump in the living room right now. I am looking at getting a Grimmspeed ebcs, Gimmick turbo inlet+ after MAF hose, and sticking with the stock intake with a dropin filter.
I also have a Greddy Type-S bov off my 2g GST that I was thinking about throwing on too! Any opinions on Gimmicks products or sticking with the stock intake with my setup? |

Get a new intake AND a new inlet. You will most definitely benefit from them at that power level. APS/SPT are my favorites for the intake, and the APS solid inlet would be my choice. I'd also recommend a FMIC, but to each his own.... there are lots of things that would HELP that may put you way over budget, depending. I did a lot of those 'little' things and easily went more than $3k over budget on my build

Well the fmic is def. off the list for now, especially since i just bought the big Turboxs tmic. Right now im focusing on turbo inlets and intakes.
I have been told that the stock intake was good for up to 400hp(not sure if that was whp or not?) I dont know much about turbo inlets and intakes on subarus, like cai or short rams with boxes? Or standard or big MAFs, or if big name companys for inlets or not so big name? Opinions please. |

You could run a stock intake at 1000hp. But you WILL benefit from one with that setup, as well as an inlet.
Call your tuner to see what he says about going big MAF, you're on the border of maxing yours out with that setup. On the inlet, there are only so many, but I would go solid, not with a silicone inlet. That leaves APS or Agency Power as the only 2 that I can think of, maybe BPM as well. |

As far as performance, there is virtually no difference. The key to a short-ram is keeping the heat of the motor away from it, using a heat shield. But if it rains a lot and you drive through deep water, a CAI may not be the way to go. It's more a matter of preference. |
