I'm doing just a simple rebuild to freshen up my beat up ej257 w/ 94k miles
Just new rings, bearings and seals. Nothing fancy, should be good enough for the turbo i want. So I'm thinking just a fresh hone, new bearings, rings, water pump, oil pump, gasket and seals. Please post up anything else i might want to consider replacing for the rebuild. Will also need my cylinder heads to be check to see if they are still in spec.I know there are a few machine shops in town and its posted on the sticky. But i wanted to see if people can post up their experiences and reviews of the machine shops around town that they have dealt with. Thanks

You might as well replace your pistons, rod and main bearing while your at it.
I would recommend you look into ARP bolts all around but not neccessary, if you don't plan on running a ton of boost. Also with your mileage I would replace your timing components, i.e belt, tensioner and pullies. Also I would go to AC machine out in birchwood to do your engine. Anyways good luck Mr.Nguyen lol |

Thank you Alex. I'm going to stick with the stock pistons, i still want that fastest vf39 stock internals stock turbo title that my friend Sean is currently holding. My plans have now changed, all i want is 11s for this car as a daily. Maybe if you would come back to Anchorage you can give me a hand with a car i will be building...... ![]() |

Pistons...There are ones that are a different alloy then what everone else uses, they provide you with stock features. No piston slap, etc. There not indestructable but they are not fragile like the stock pistons.
Pulling the motor and not replacing the pistons with at least the next step up is not a very good use of time. You can problably do what you want to on the stock pistons but your 11 sec daily driver will have a short life. 1 quart of oil every 300-500 miles will become the norm once that ringlanding breaks. Read this and re-think...http://www.iwsti.com/forums/built-mo...ong-motor.html You asked for input so there is my .02 |

As far as a machine shop.. I went with A/C Machine (in Eagle River) Chris, the tech there, kept me very informed as to what he was doing, why, when, and what to expect, etc. I received calls about every other day so that I knew there was progress. They charged about $1000 for my build, but then again I did a bit more than you..I had bore/hone, heads resurfaced, head work, tear down, parts swap, port match, port n polish, hot sink, and re-assembly done. They're a bit cheaper than ADB, but personally, I'm extremely happy with the results..
As far as making an 11 sec daily driver on stock internals.. Here's a small suggestion: ARP Head Studs ARP Block Studs (Case Studs) ARP Main Studs ARP Rod Studs for you to get to 11 secs, you're probably going to need solid amounts of boost, these studs will definately allow you to get there. Replacing the pistons isnt a bad thing, but you're talking about alot of power, and stock (factory) pistons that have 90k+ miles on them. I'd probably order a set of stronger (non forged since you want to stay stock size etc) and have them installed instead of the ones you're currently running. Pistons arent too expensivce for our cars honestly, but then again I'm used to building Domestic V8's with 2x the pistons ![]() just my .02 |

Keep the stock case bolts no one has ever split a case apart due to high boost pressure.
Now go over to the Built Motor Discussion and camp out there for about three months. |
