Default in desperate need of help please read!!

i have a 05 wrx wagon with 92k on it and recently i did a 20g,750cc injectors,walboro255 fuel pump and a header uppipe install..... after a couple of maps from pdx tuning im on my way. it pulls great and is doing fine when all of the sudden when i hit 5k it falls on its face. contact pdx and the next day a new map comes and its solved. a couple of weeks pass and i get a flashing check engine light. #3 misfire... i reset the ecu with the accessport and everythings ok.... a few weeks later it does it again but this tiime its #3 and#1. again, i reset the ecu andit clears and runs fine. it keeps running well for another 5 days and the #3 comes back. i reset it and take it to my mechanic. he swaps out my plugs with 1 step colder ngks but when he does its on 24/7 no reset will fix it. the next night swapped out coil packs. ran like a dream then randomly a week ago it started #3 again. it runs and shakes violently and dies whenever you take it out of gear. i did some research and saw people said the valves stick so i seafoamed it and changed the oil. problem solved , no reset necessary. ran fine for 3 days and now it wont stop misfiring and resetting the ecu dosent work anymore.... any info would be very apriciated i have a lot of confused people trying to solve this mystery with me. and yes the injectors were flow tested by deashworks thank you, kelley

Do you have a light weight flywheel?

Are the spark plugs gapped correctly?

Which intake are you using?

Get a compression test.

Swap MAFs with someone and see if that fixes it. Your MAF might be maxing out.

^A bad MAF/a MAF thats not scaled or incapable of proper scaling for your airflow can make a car act like a complete disaster. Without the MAF the engine is basically blind to whats coming at it. I've seen quite a few MAFs go bad and your symptoms could be from that. If you can get the car to do a good 6 or 7000rpm pull and datalog it, log the MAF signal and see if it looks as you'd expect it.

is the timing belt original?

Honestly I had a lot of the same problems with my emailed tune from PDX aswell. I needed one so I could make a trip to get it protuned. I gave a list of all my mods and so on to them, but for the 5 days until I could get tuned it had all the same problems as yours. Once I got it actually tuned, I haven't had a single problem. And it makes more power, runs better, and seems WAY more accurate than an email tune. 20,000 miles later I'm still happy. FWIW

$300 to $400 on average. Depends on the tuner.

If you fill out your profile, it'd be easier to help and find a good local tuner.

I had everything from #1 and #4 to #3 and #4 to all misfires. Car would act up, and even after installing all I did, it just felt wrong. I knew an 18g should feel more than the email tune provided. I was correct, I gained over 50whp and 40wtq from a protune vs. email tune.

This might sound like an obvious question, but by what method are you "resetting" your ecu? If you're not completley disconnecting the battery, try that.

i had maps from PDX and the car never ran right always wanted to die... your best bet is to take it somewhere and have it protuned by someone... once i had mine tuned all problems were solved

Did you ever do any logging? it sounds your car might have been trying to tell you it was not happy with the tune. compression test time. ECU reset is not a magical "fix"

Could be 2 other items I didn't hear mentioned.

Out of tolerance valve lash can cause incurable missfires (incurable at least until a valve adjustment is done).

Also a bad Front O2 sensor can cause your car to run like you explained. Put the car in open loop (WOT or above a certain RPM) and it will run fine, but when its in closed loop using the front O2 differently it will sputter, stall, backfire, etc . . .

your bad tune might have fuel soaked the plugs and ruined them...

+1. This can happen literally in 10 rotations of the motor (I've seen it)
