Default I think the US needs a penal colony

I think the US needs a penal colony. Our prisons are crowded and we are spending a lot of money on these people. As we all know, money's short these days. We've already printed a lot of it, and its only a matter of time before China stops loaning us money.

I think this would be a good way to cut some money out of federal and state budgets. Set up some sort of joint funded penal colony, funded by states and federal budget.

Make the prisoners work. I doubt you could turn a profit but at least you could reduce the cost.

In today's world, the rest of the world looks at the US with a skeptical eye. This colony would have to be run well & efficiently. Prisoners should be taken care of, they are humans, humans make mistakes and deserve compassion and forgiveness.

In hard economic times you have to be real about the situation. You have to think of real solutions. Federal and state budgets are in massive deficit and they need realistic solutions. We can't just keep printing money and borrowing it from China. Eventually our line of credit will run out (there's only so much economy to borrow against), and inflation from printing all this money will eventually take hold. You can't just print money w/o the value of the money eventually going down. The US economy isn't going to just burst into massive growth anytime soon. We need to learn to live on less. Dont let what's happening to Japan right now happen to us where we are dependent on economic growth to sustain our population.

I was thinking Barberton, Ohio. The quality of life would definetely go up if it were a prison.

Have fun telling me how wrong I am.

Or how about we stop locking people up for stupid ****, like nonviolent drug offenders?

Why not? All of their criminals are in NYC, it'd be a fair trade.

^I agree with that.

the not locking people up for dumb **** thing.

Another option would be to just tear down on the bridges to Manhattan Island and use it. I mean half the criminals are already there anywayz. BAZING!!!, lol

Honestly if we made a huge wall around Washington DC and put 2 miles of land mines in each direction from the wall I think the US would become a better place.

The Harrow was not writing but only stabbing, and the Bed was not rolling the body, but lifting it, quivering, up into the needles. The Traveller wanted to reach in to stop the whole thing, if possible. This was not the torture the Officer wished to attain; it was murder, pure and simple. He stretched out his hands. But at that point the Harrow was already moving upwards and to the side, with the skewered body—just as it did in other cases, but only in the twelfth hour. Blood flowed out in hundreds of streams, not mixed with water—the water tubes had failed to work this time, as well. Then one last thing went wrong: the body would not come loose from the long needles. Its blood streamed out, but it hung over the pit without falling. The Harrow wanted to move back to its original position, but, as if realizing that it could not free itself of its load, it remained over the hole. “Help,” the Traveller yelled out to the Soldier and the Condemned Man, and he himself grabbed the Officer’s feet. He wanted to push against the feet himself and have the two others grab the Officer’s head from the other side, so he could be slowly lifted off the needles. But now the two men could not make up their mind whether to come or not. The Condemned Man turned away at once. The Traveller had to go over to him and drag him to the Officer’s head by force. At this point, almost against his will, he looked at the face of the corpse. It was as it had been in life. He could discover no sign of the promised transfiguration. What all the others had found in the machine, the Officer had not. His lips were pressed firmly together, his eyes were open and looked as they had when he was alive, his gaze was calm and convinced. The tip of a large iron needle had gone through his forehead.

I like parts of Puerto Rico, what about some of the numerous islands the US owns in the Pacific?

Why put all the prisoners on some tropical island? A lot of people would pay for that privilege.

I still like Greenland as a penal colony.

Wall off southern California and the whole of the North East and you've pretty much got it made.

Greenland is pretty big, the possibility that you would have an escaped prisoner who would make it back to civilization I would think would be higher than if you crammed them together on a smaller island.

If youre going for cold maybe parts of the western Aleutian islands.
