Default need some guru advice

as of sunday, my Alpine CDA-9856 has been acting up. Sometimes ill turn my car on to acc and itll work as normal...but when i start the car up, the radio goes into stupid mode and dosent seem to send sound to the speakers..and none of the buttons (besides source) seems to work..cant turn up the volume, change stations, or change ipod tracks.

now this am, when i turned the car on, it did it...i pressed the restart button on the unit, and viola it worked on my way to work. Now the test is to see if it works when i go out and try it over break....im not getting my hopes up

has anyone else experienced this or know what might be my problem? i really dont want to buy a new head unit...

i got the receiver in Feb 2006, i installed it back then..the wiring is very clean and organized (even with my weird - audio shop recommended - way of powering my front components with an amp method).

i havent had any problems until sunday am..when i tried to re-locate my sirius box from its failed location in my glovebox (kept falling down...no matter how/where i tried to mount it in there) to under my passenger's seat.

What did this involve? I think you've identified your culprit regardless. Why are you messing around w/ your stereo if you didnt' feel comfortable installing it yourself?

you missed the part where i said i DID install it myself. section 3..

perhaps reading comprehension classes could help ya out.

and to answer your question of what it involved...it involved me un plugging the connections on the sirius box (power, output plug and antenna plug and moving wires out form the glove box area to under my seat..routing it underneath the panels of the center console and under some carpet..nothing too intense

I was gonna give you some "guru advice" but your nasty "reading comprehension" comment made me rethink that.

Look at the Sirius box, its the last thing you touched and the issue came up after you moved it.

Troubleshooting comprehension classes could help ya out.

i wouldnt be asking if i didnt do my own troubleshooting (testing wires, making sure nothing is snagged/cut/loosened checking fuses - even though i didnt touch or move anything behind the stereo itself.

As for my nasty comment, it was due to his inability to read my post and try and call me out assuming i'm incapable of doing installs myself...especially since i explained that i performed the work...

and to comment, why would unplugging wires on a sirius box mess up the operation of the main unit?

Make sure the sirius box is first pulling constant 12v+ and not switched (it does weird stuff with these boxes and aftermarket radios)

Adding/removing devices etc can also do weird stuff that requires a reset. Make sure both units have a clean chassis ground as well.

ok makes sense! i haven't had my break yet to test... but if its still problematic, ill pop the unit out and check the grounding areas and see where that get me.

Maybe some basic English writing classes would help you. Your OP was almost painful to read, which might have contributed to my misunderstanding. Proper punctuation and grammar make all the difference. Sorry for trying to help...

That attitude makes people NOT want to help you. Next time you act like that here I'll shut your thread down immediately. Thanks for making people feel stupid for WASTING their time to help you
