Default Kenwood DNX7140 or DNX9140

Hey Guys,

So as you may have seen, I've decided on speakers and an amp and have almost decided on a sub for my new setup. Now the thing I'm stuck on, the headunit

I can get the DNX7140 or DNX9140, the price difference isn't too significant but I don't want to just waste money and get the 9140 because it is "the best" and costs more. Do you guys know any major differences between the two or know if the 9140 is worth the extra money?

Thanks,

Mike

The 9140 has 4V preamp output right? I think that is worth something. It's your choice, most other major features are the same.

I believe the 9140 has a more up-to-date version of the Garmin software... audio side it has 5.1 processing and time alignment.

Yeah I heard the audio is slightly better but I don't know if I can justify the price increase just for slightly better audio... My CDA-7998 sounds great now and I can't decide if I really even need this, might be better to just get speakers.

7998 sounds better. I also have a 7998 I keep for a rainy day next to my 9255 that swaps in and out with my navi units. Multimedia units have too much going on inside.

Well I really need a hands-free phone setup, Bluetooth to stream music, and some sort of decent iPod integration...

I really think the Kenwood will be a great unit, but it comes down to which one...

Why did you pick the 9140 though?

Shadow,

If you aren't going to have amps and speakers that will require a high voltage output to offer cleaner sound, or you can't tell the difference, then save your cash and get the 7140. If you are like me and just like to spend money to spend money and can actually hear the diffference, then get the 9140. It's a personal choice like your brand, size and model of underwear.

At the time I was running a complete 5.1 system to include center channel, so the integrated surround processor was desireable. Since then I've rethought my design and am going with a 4 way active set up... aleviating the necessity of all the onboard processing.

9140 gives you voice control, it also has a better screen so it give you a clearer picture. The only down side is that it is a little sow because it uses the same processor as the 7140, but its a great unit.
