Default Stage 2 for noobs

Im making this thread because i think way too many people go stage 2 (full turboback and a tune) for way too expensive and its been bothering me. You can use nasiocs classified to find ridiculously great deals on everything you will need from the catback to the downpipe and accessport or other methods of tuning. I bought my invidia catback for 200, my accessport for 225, and my invidia V3 downpipe for 120...so before you go off spending unnecessary money on new exhaust piping from your car, just remember, it is just a stainless steel pipe and a used one will do just fine...just my 2 cents, this might save you guys some money if your on a tight budget

well i think people spend the extra $$ because of quality and sound. not every exhaust sounds the same. some are quiet and some are not. also you will spend more if you want a catted dp. as for tuning, of course you can just get the OTS maps from cobbs website but it will be nothing compared to a protune.

You can find a good used tbe for around $500 and a good professional tune for $250-300. That complete setup would be around $400 less than a new cobb tbe and over $1000 less than there full stage 2 setup bought new.

Buy used, with some dedication and patients you'll find exactly what your looking for at a ridiculous price.

Truth, I bought a HKS carbon Ti Catback (the one I wanted, for the sound quality.), Grimmspeed Downpipe, and a protune for less than $1000

Another cheap way, you could buy a downpipe, $100, and buy a tactrix cable $160 and there you go for less than $300. Catback is optional as what you really need is the downpipe.

The helix catted dp is of the same quality, fit, and finish as the cobb but doesn't have the hefty price tag. Helix and invida are both very popular quality downpipes at a fraction of the price. I bought the helix catted dp, borla hush cbe, and got a great tune for under $800. Cobb makes a great product but people can definitely find product of the same quality for less.

i understand, but it is simply a pipe, a stainless steel pipe...if it has defects they can be spotted but im not sure how wrong you can go buying a used stainless steel exhaust...and you can buy quality parts on the used parts forum, a used cobb catted dp is just as good as new, not much can go wrong there

Im not trying to step on toes or anger anyone but honestly who cares how , where or how much it cost me to go Stage II in MY car. If I dont want to take the time and wait to find a part, or feel its better for me to buy NEW, why should it bother anyone else enough to post about other people's buying habits. Only reason I could think is if the person has tried to sell some quality used parts and had no one interested. Again this is just my opininon.

OP was just trying to be nice. Calm down people. There are some things to buy new, and others that are certainly better off to pick up used. For those who can afford to pay top dollar for everything, go right ahead. It's your money and your car. The last time I did a build, (before I owned a home) I bought everything new and paid top dollar, to, unfortunately, have my $30,000 investment stolen and stripped, before I even broke it in. Now that I actually have bills, and responsibilities, I bought everything used that I could, and saved a nice chunk of money doing so.

^ understandable but we subaru folk are pretty dependable good people(for the most part). Used exhaust components have no real downsides . You know that the piece your looking for is of quality make, having researched and found what you're looking for, with few flaws visible in the pictures provided. Buying some other parts used is not always such a good idea but not buying an exhaust pipe used because it has a little bit of dirt on it or a miniscule ding is kind of ridiculous.
Personally I love the hundreds I saved on the turbo back I was looking for, which happened to be a little dirty. There are dozens of trust worthy people here who have bought and sold used exhaust with great results. On another positive note, by buying and selling on private subaru forums you're keeping it in the family.

My friend is going stage 2 for $300. I'm going my VF39 upgrade for less than $1k.

He obviously didn't make the most educated purchase. Once again he should be able to see any cracks or other imperfections in the pictures provided but they most likely weren't provided. This person you speak of most likely felt he was getting a great deal and jumped into a purchase before he had all the necessary information. There are also ways of preventing such sales from going unchecked such as using paypal and saving the correspondences you have with the seller.

Hell yea!!!!! its annoying! I just bought my tactrix cable 0.o now for allll the fun learning, but i also feel like no one has really made a base map for the 09 yet i could only find 08 on romraider. I have only looked at it just a little bit, I know computers in and out so learning all this wont take me to long and i only plan on monitoring and learning what to look for first then i will flash it after like a week of studying and learning things.

I this is post is a great point, some people have the money and will spend the money without a doubt, but to many quality products get over looked by people who dont got the cash. Pipes and **** there really isn't a reason to not buy used, all cracks and such are noticed very easly and also sealed right up rather easy.

Even other parts are simple to notice defects and can be trusted... I dont think i would buy used gears... but a used short throw probally, my dp and exhaust more then likely. And i dont really think anyone on here is really out to screw you, if the prodcut they sell is fubar then i believe they would take it back. We dont exactly what to be called out on here.

Paid $300 for a Greddy SP2 catback I wanted (and you can find a lot of catbacks for even less), $100 for an Invidia DP, and $300 for a V2 AP.

$700 out the door and I'm stage 2 with the exhaust note I want and the preferred tuning method of the tuner I will be visiting this spring. Asides from a little dirt and discoloration, the parts are perfect with no defects. Basically paid half what I would've paid for the setup brand new.

no worries man, just commenting on this issue. Believe me before I ever buy anything for my car I check here and clubwrx.net for used parts. If I can get a quality used part for a good price and help out a Suby owner at the same time, all the more reason to buy used.
