Default Would you walk away?

Currently I'm looking for a used STi, found one in my area. It's an 07 w/ 52k though. Seems a bit high for a 3 year old car. Certified used from Subaru, clean carfax, all stock, $25k.
What do you guys think?

Thats just a little less than what my brand new 09 wrx cost....and the diffrence in performance isn't leaps and bounds....

I am not sure about this at all, but i think it might even possibly be slower. I am still new to all this I just know that the 09 are freakin beast and i love it!

I know what the kbb sugested retail is, my main concern is the high mileage for that year, '07 w/ 52k seems weird to me.

Ask the dealer if they've done any of the standard 60k mile service items? Offer $23k + they take care of a trans/diff fluid change as well as spark plugs and a fuel filter.

High mileage for an '07?

Purchased in '06.
Driven 3 yrs.
52k/3 = 17.3k miles a year

I see what you are saying here but "performance" is a very relative term. Performance you may be the slightly quicker 0-60 sprint (1 shift in the 5spd vs. 2 shifts in the 6spd), where as the advantages of the STi suspension and brakes may qualify the STi as a better "performance" option. Not trying to hate at all, just pointing out that everything is relative to each driver and I do not see the cars are leaps and bounds apart from a performance aspect.

OP: As you can see the kbb value is right on. I don't see 52k as terrible for an '07, considering the car is (in reality) 3 years old....17k a year isn't all that bad IMO.

52k is higher than average, but not crazy, I have 41K on my 07. I'd go w/ Scooby 921's idea though...

That's what I was thinking about offering, I'm hoping to get outside financing and hoping that gives me an advantage.
As for the wrx vs sti debate, please end it now. I'm not buying a wrx, I'm buying an sti and selling my wrx... Plus the new body style isn't my bag regardless of what Im buying.
52k does seem a little high to me, I'm was looking for a car in the 40k range, but pickings for sti's are slim right now, espically certified.

This.

If he plans on tracking the car a used STI is the way to go. In that respect, the STI's performance is leaps and bounds better.

If he just wants a quick car for the street, a new WRX is a far better choice.

At least you know most of the miles were from highway driving. I put about 25k a year on my car with a 40 mile a day commute, and also love cruising on the weekends.

I put 30-32k miles on my WRXs on just the 1st year of ownership on both of them. But last year I put like 4-5k on my current one due to down time and owning another car.

its a little high but not crazy. see when the car was sold if you can. if its an early sale '07 then it might have 3 years on the road already. i know i drive 15,500 or so a year. so its very possible for someone to do 17something. and like someone said, see if you can get them to do the 60k service for you.

Car was first bought July '07, 20k by January '08. That guy drove A LOT in 6 months!
The mileage is less concerning after starting this thread and hearing from you guys.
I found an '05 with only 35k for the same price, but I'm not a huge fan of the color.... haha, kinda a ridiculous reason to pass on a car but if it never feels like it's mine I'll never like it completely.

yeah, to some color isn't much of an issue, but if you're spending the $$ sometimes it's worth a few extra bills or milage on the car for the 'perfect' car for you

I picked up my 2002 WRX with a little bit under 50k miles for 12.9 g's.

If I were you, I'd pass and keep looking.

I had the same problem... my 02 was totaled, wanted an 06/07 sti. Then I decided to drive a 2010 wrx.

I was surprised with how much power the 10 had out of the box. Definitely a better daily driver.

I couldn't find a sti that wasn't beat on locally, so i went the 2010, and I have free service and maintenance for three years.

And now im building my new car they way I want it done.

With the proper mods, a wrx can kill and sti around the track.

However The sti is a much better platform to start with, and if the car is certified, then you have a warranty til 100k anyway so...

you should qualify for a good rate through Subaru for financing (car is certified)

dont forget to check the cost of your insurance (STI>WRX)

Now drive them both and see which you prefer

(dont forget some 07 sti's had a problem in cylinder 4, but the car has 52k and is under warranty)

You got a 7-8 year old WRX for that, yes, the mileage is low for that year car, but you have to understand a WRX is not an STi.
Dealer is asking blue book, if I come in with a blank check and throw them an offer I should get bellow asking, which is also below blue book, so it's a fair deal.
