Default 20g= louder spool than VF39?

I just got tuned with a 20g / EWG setup. It's super sweet and feels fast as hell but......the whistle/spool up sound of the 20g seems super loud. Is this normal? I would assume if there was a boost leak (turbo inlet) or a preturbo exhaust leak (EWG or UPpipe) then it wouldn't have been holding boost on the DYNO earlier today. Made good power peak 21psi holding 19psi to redline. A leak would affect that wouldn't it. Hopefully someone can just tell me that the new turbo should be louder when spoolin up.

Thanks

I'm guessing is the sound of your EWG!!

Now, wasn't you going with a 18G?

what turbo inlet did you have on the vf39?

do you have a aftermarket one now with the 20g?

make a vid, but its probably completely normal.

lets just say, i had a APS CAI, on my stock td04, people thought i had a upgraded turbo 'cause it was loud...

What exhaust are you running???? A TBE will amplify anything you have.

But i'm guessing you're hearing the EWG.

Edit: First guy i know who doesn't like that Turbo spool sound.

p.s. It's like god is whispering in my ear when i hear that spool.

My friend drives an Evo X with a test pipe and catback (loud). I was behind him the other day and we started accelerating from a light, he said that he could hear my 30r spooling 50ft behind him over his exhaust.

I'd say it's entirely possible, if not probable, that your 20g is simply louder than the VF39.

Sounds normal.
My IWG 20g sounded like a semi truck when spoolin, these turbos are pretty loud.
EWG makes it much louder though.

Yeah...I was. Talked myself into wanting a 20g. I didn't want to go through the whole getting tuned thing and be disappointed with just slight power increase. I didn't go with a BIG 20g. Just a TD05 7cm. It spools just as fast as my 39 did. 340ft/lbs (super low reading MUSTANG) at 3600rpms. It's like night and day.

Sorry dude, I've been out of touch. Yeah I bought another EWG setup that I was going to run with an 18g 8cm that I had but then sold to get a 20g. Give me a shout man, we'll hang and talk about our cars

I talked to my tuner (MATT @ Benchmark Tuning in Chicago) He said that my car wouldn't have made power or held boost with a leak and that 20g are just louder than the 39. After driving it a lot today, I'm sure it's the turbo. It sounds ****in sweet but I was just being paranoid yesterday. Anyone that knows me knows what kind of luck I've had with trying to make this ****ing car go faster

I would totally recommend a 7cm 20g/EWG set up for the 2.5L. No you don't make as much power up top but that really doesn't matter to me. It's a daily driver with 2 carseats in the back that rarely sees much more than highway speeds. But at around town it feels quick as hell. I think it will be a perfect autox setup...if I can just learn to drive

As far as the turbo spooling, it seems that mitsu turbos for whatever reason just spool up ALOT louder than ihi's. My stock tdo4 spooled loud as crap compared to my current vf39 and I havent changed anything in the intake system between the switch.

its pretty well known that in general misubishi turbos spool much louder than IHI turbos. You can barely hear IHI turbos over the exhaust. my td04 had a very loud, semi truck sounding spool up.

No....I'm saying that after I got the turbo, injectors and ewg on, I drove down to Chicago staying out of boost on a temp map. I didn't drive the car until after it was tuned and it sounded different. I never said it sounded bad. I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience switching from the stock vf39 to a 20g. I just heard some different sounds goin on (not the ewg, I expected that to be loud)....and I wanted to make sure it was normal. Whats up with the ::sigh::? How else am I supposed to find out without asking?

Yeah...now it sounds ****in sweet, after I realized it was supposed to sound like that. I'm new to this ****, dude.

thanks
