Default Has anyone tried true front license delete/ smooth bumper?

Sadly, I curbed my car the other weekend and need a new bumper.
I have always hated the raised section on the 08+ cars where the front license plate mounts as it completely breaks up all the nice smoothness.

Here's what I was thinking. Take the bumper off and cut the raised section out. Use body filler to smooth it out (possibly plastic weld the previously raised section behind for support). Then, take it to a body shop for paint.

Anyone ever done or seen this done?
I'm mostly worried about 2 things:
1. Not being able to get it all smooth in the first place, but I figure I can call in some friends for that if needed.
2. The long term reliability of body filler on a plastic piece and one that flexes naturally at that. I'm worried all do all this work but it will look like butt in a year or so as all the paint comes off around it.

Wow! Looking great. I'm really motivated now to try or at least get a body shop to try.

Kerem, how is it holding up for you? Been through any winters yet?

more than a year and it is still perfect. I don't think that plastic welding will lose its shape.

Same thing happened to me actually and i have a new bumper to and it already needs painting. Does anyone know if there is a DIY on how to do it? Or is it best to just get a body shop to ?

Thanks

Glad to know someone actually did this. I'd be curious to know how much it would cost from a shop, no way I'm trying this one myself

My buddy and I did it on my LGT with a STi front end conversion. It was the top 1/3 of a LGT bumper molded to 3/4 of a 06/07 STi

Materials list please? As far as adhesives and filler and the like?
I talked to the dealer, repairing the car now, and asked for my old bumper to practice on. The guy thought I was nuts, of course, but said I would need some special filler which I have forgotten to make sure it will flex, expand, and contract like the plastic.
