Ive removed the factory t5 bulbs and added some green LED's to try and match the brightness of my green Prosport boost guage. There are about 6 areas on the cluster that are noticable a lot brighter then the rest (right were the LED's are). And my needles dont really light up. Anyone know whats going on. Please help
Thanks Grant

the LED's have a more focused beam of light compared to that of a light bulb. Therefore the light is not dissipated as evenly and you get hot spotting. You can try and get the LED's to disperse their light a little more evenly by roughing up the lens of the LED with some sandpaper but you will still get some hot spotting, hopefully it won't be as bad as it is now.
Your needles don't light up for the same reason, the LED's are not dispersing light as widely and as evenly as the traditional bulb did. Under the face of the gauges there are likely light "channels" that catch the light and shine it up into the needle to illuminate it. Not enough light is being directed at these channels to illuminate the needles. There is a sticky in the Electrical and Lighting forum about color changing the WRX gauge cluster. Check that out for some more detailed information about what people do to try and fix these known issues. You should be able to apply them to your Legacy SS cluster as well. |
