Ok I have a downpipe and cobb ap tune. I installed an aftermarket exhaust the spt but didn't like the cabin noise. What should my next step be to get more power? I have a 2009 wrx sedan thanks

depending on how much power you want and money you have...the simplest start would be a dyno tune. There's probably alot to be had out of the stock setup. Go check the "proven power" forum to see what people are getting of different set ups on that car.

What are your goals for the car??
If you're running stock tires/brakes/suspension, no matter how fast it is in a straight line you're still driving a turbo-charged brick on the track. |

a protune?? would that really make that much of a difference from my cobb ap shelf map? I don't plan on driving it on the tracks anytime soon maybe later in the future, but i just want more power. just to have incase some guys pull up next to me on the freeway, but i definitely understand that on the tracks i need more than just power.

If you're looking for a fast car on the freeway, you've already made a big mistake with the AWD WRX.
You want a freeway monster, get a Trans-Am WS6 with exhaust/intake/cam and a few other goodies. Will it turn?- Not really, but it's a highway monster for cheap... |

The WS6 isn't bad in the twisties. I was at a hillclimb in ID a few years a go and the times were respectable.
There is a lot of hurry up and wait at a hillclimb and you get a chance to talk to the other drivers... |

the cobb ots maps are a "one size fits all" map. every car is different and the ots maps dont take into account altitdue, temps etc. they are pretty conservative and a dyno tune or "protune" should make a noticiable difference.
i dont know what you future power goals are but personally id get a 255lpm fuel pump, injectors, a turbo inlet and of coarse a dyno tune. |

depends on what you can spend...you want power? get a slightly bigger turbo, something like a HTA68 or 20G and supporting mods like injectors/pump/big FMIC or TMIC and get tuned!

it's more than just a peak HP increase...it will make more power across the whole rpm range and be smoother- exact numbers though, maybe 20+ more peak HP. i have no clue really how the 09s respond to mods/tuning though...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1425666 their website has graphs for your 09 stage 2. i'm guessing a protune would give you even better results than an ots map. for daily driving the 09s have a lot of potential with minimal mods. lastly, i don't go on the track either but upgrading swaybars on my 08 made a huge improvement in overall handling for spirited daily driving. |

best thing to do is figure out your goals first. a basic stage II is a great start but its also an end for many people because that's all the power they want. you have a whole lot of options ahead of you. Instead of buying something you don't need and then wasting money and time, figure out EXACTLY how much power you want, then take the best and most cost effective ways in getting there. what if you do a get protune, decide you want more power, then get a bigger turbo, and then have to get another protune later on? that's $400 you pretty much just wasted. goals first, then buy. get my drift? no pun intended

Lots of tuners use the AP so it's not wasted dollars. Find a respected tuner that uses it and save a couple different maps maybe, one a little more conservative than the other. You still have a good tuning tool.

I'm currently running AP OTS catless stage 2 with CAI. My biggest spike was 21psi, but normally hit 19 on average. Stage 2 is suppose to be 17.5psi.
My personal goal is to get the most out of my stock turbo with consideration of going bigger later down the road. With that said I already purchased a grimmspeed EWG and TIAL 44mm wastegate. Next is EBC, fuel pump and protune. From the research I've done that setup should push respectively in the 300+ whp/tq range. Hope that helps |
