Default stop the tire shredding! (help!!!)

i have an 06 sti, with 18x9.5+27/255/35. my front fenders are slightly rolled, no rubbage whatsoever. unfortunately i took the trimming route on the rears and it turned out being somewhat of a nightmare. the left rear is just fine. the right rubs over hard dips and is shredding my tire. i only have 1k miles on these tires and it looks horrible. ive read that after trimming a rear fender its very difficult to pull it. can anyone give me any advice or point me in the right direction? it makes me not even want to drive my car.

thanks!

^do you think a 245 would make much of a difference? i know if i pull my rears the 255s will fit just fine, but i dont know anyone around here that would do it, especially after being trimmed up

Stepping down to a 245 will not make a big improvement. You have to low an offset.

Find some different wheels.

To be fair, it sounds like looks rather than performance was your only concern in those modifications. We reap what we sow. But I'm sure it looks wonderfully aggressive while parked.

well to be fair, i didnt just buy an impreza and throw some wide wheels on it to look cool. i have a lot of bolt ons and a tune and i rocked the stockers for almost 4 years. the performance is not suffering and it handles great. what is suffering is the right rear tire which is being shredded right above the side wall. i know there is a way to solve this problem, and the answer im looking for is not "get new wheels" so if there is anybody out there that can help me in the nj, ny, or pa area please help!

Regardless of your other mods the problem is:

a) You put a rediculously high offset wheel on your Subaru which clearly didn't fit from the word GO. That was your first mistake.
b) Mistake #2 : You attempted to ghetto fix it by cutting metal from the fender.

There are two solutions:

a) Ditch the WRONG wheels and buy a set that fits a Subaru. But I see you don't want to go this route so...
b) Pay a stupid amount of money for a bodyshop to modify your wheel arches to fit the wrong offset.

PS. Odds are, the bodyshop will make more of a mess unless you do a widebody conversion. The problem is not the fender, the problem is the wheel.

and the answer im looking for is not "get new wheels"

Sometimes the truth hurts, but the truth is you are using a completley mismatched set of wheels then asking "How do I make it work ?" . Maybe you should buy a car that fits those wheels then, like an EVO ?

thank you. this is definitely good info and should be managable to do at home.

as for legacy, i know what the problem is my friend. wrong size wheels. really?! thanks i didnt know that when i was buying them. so how about i just sell my car and buy an evo because i want an aggressive fitment. good advice! since you didnt have any positive advice for me, how about you and uncle scotty GTFO

i don't bash on your choice of mods. many people happen to like aggressive fitment and there has been much success with fitting them without damaging their tires. thats why i post here, to get advice on how to make it work. not so i can listen to close minded ******** tell me, hey buy new wheels thats your problem. but thanks for your concern guys!

You know, I usually don't jump on the "you are an idiot with poor fitting wheels" bandwagon...but in this case Ian435, you are a tool.

Good luck with your ghetto setup with "hella aggressive" wheels. You will no doubt spend far more in then end. I mean you COULD sell your 18x9.5 +27 (!!!) wheels, buy some 18x9 +35 and fit fine and still be "herra frush"...but I guess you would rather be a douche and ignore good advice. I assume you did the same when buying the wheels in the first place...

haha! good point bro. i asked for advice on how to make them fit. there are guys with 10 inch wheels on a GD body and they dont shred up their tires. how is "buy new wheels" good advice when that is clearly not my goal? and go ahead, u can call me a tool, and a douche because everybody is such a tough guy on the internet. i dont run around saying herra frush and all that nonsense. i like the aggressive style and i know that if 18x10+25 can be fit then 9.5 isnt ridiculous and impossible like you guys say it is. i love how much hate you guys spread when it comes to wheel fitment. if you don't have advice for helping the fitment then just keep your "hey your wheels dont fit on your subaru, what a tool" to yourself. THANKS!

I did offer some positive advice do a widebody conversion . If you wanna play with extreme offsets then be prepared to deal with the consequences and pay for a solution. +25 on a 9.5 inch wheel is waaaaaaay beyond aggresive, its extreme.

Here's another approach. Replace those rear springs with an incredibly high spring rate. This way the suspension won't move at all over those dips and you'll solve your rubbing problems. That's actualy a pretty simple and cheap solution. Won't ride very nice but you'll have your wheels without tearing up those tires.

BTW, did you ask anybody else running ET25's on a Subaru how they did it ?

people running low offsets said to pull the rear fenders. i wasnt sure how to go about that, and i wasnt sure if since my rears are trimmed up, would it be possible for a pull? wide body would be awesome but its way out of my price range and if i were to do that, it would be more of at least a 10"wheel. do you know of a good suspension that is stiffer than my flex coils? thanks!

and everytime i think of uncle scotty

Why don't you just go here:

Since this criticism is obviously way to much for you. I'm sure they'll be more sympathetic over there.

My friend I have the solution for you...

You have to "shave" the rear of your wheels that's how we call it here in PR. We have these machines down here that are especially for drilling wheels, opening center bores and shaving wheels. They can be shave at least 4 to 5 mm and that will solve your problem.

The only people I know on the states that carry this kind of machine is GOODROADS and they are located in Ft. Lauderdale. The cost for this job, for just the rear wheels runs from 60 to 80 dollars.

You can contact tomorrow Hernan Cordero he is the General Manager from Goodroads and tell him I sent you, Jose Surfer from Puerto Rico, that you need your wheels to be shaved, he will know what are you talking about.

Hope this helps mate.
