Default Stuck Tail housing Removal

I finally got the pins out of the shift linkage and I thought I was home free, but noooooooooo...

All 9 bolts off and its only the 2 pins left holding it on. It will not budge at all and there aren't really accessible edges to hammer it off.

Whats the trick to this?

The extension case that is attached to the transfer case? Hit the dowel pins with a punch and hammer from the transfer case side, the pins are attached to the extension case.

You need a knife!!! I normally use a rubber mallet and hit the side. It works all the time. Other times I use my sharp butcher knife to crack it open.

A combination of the above will definately persuade it to come apart. Knock the pins through after spraying the penetrant all around the seams and now empty bolt holes, then use a knife or stiff scraper tapped into the seam line to start the separation. Work your way around with more penetrant as you gradually use bigger tools.

Beer doesn't help the case come apart....but it makes you feel better while fighting it.
