Default The STi had to go back in yesterday...this time they lent me an Evo

This is the second time the dealership has asked to borrow my car back this month due to paperwork issues (the WSP screwed up the state inspection paperwork). Last time they didn't tell me what my loaner would be, but I assumed they would give me something equal in value. Then they showed up with a Tiburon. With a 6cyl & a 6spd tans, it only put out 130hp ()...I was pissed. I called and asked them why they thought it was appropriate to lend me a car worth 10K when they had my Sti, currently worth 25K. So when they called me this time, I demanded a car somewhat equivalent to mine. When I got there, they said I could have any car on the lot. Thats when I saw the shiny red Evo 8 in the corner I couldn't turn down the chance to compare the two for myself...

Overall, it was a fun car to drive.
BUT I do have a few complaints;
The interior was hideous. It looked like a clone of my brother's '83 Dodge Colt. The seats were adjustable, but a pain in the ass to adjust! The body roll was out of control and it had the turbo lag from hell. The stereo was a POS as well and my head all but hit the ceiling in the drivers seat.
Long sweeping curves felt a lot more stable than in the STi. I loved the leather interior and sunroof. And although it had turbo lag, after you gave it a good 5 seconds to kick in, it was ridiculously quick.
And it was fun to beat on somebody else's car for a few hours.
I am so glad I bought another subaru

Ill still love it. My family builds drag cars as a hobby. A build would only cost me what the parts cost. I don't drive my car hard either. If you take proper care of them, subarus run forever... well, almost

I hope you are just kidding...

I would hate to buy a car a dealership loaned out to a customer, that then ragged the hell out of it.

Whats the deal on the WSP inspection? Was it a salvage? Or a rebuild?

And I LOL-ed all up in this thread. Nice review of the very much plastic '83 Dodgubishi Evolt.

Interior is a bit blah

but the Evo out handles any Subaru I've ever driven.

I think... I'm probably going to get one

Hope you get your car issues sorted out and soon

I think a lot of the impression of "superior handling" comes from the faster steering rack. I've driven a pretty heavily modded Evo (suspension wise), and really only the steering rack speed impressed me. That's easily fixed in a Subaru with a QuickRack.

I see, I am the bad guy for believing you should treat a car that's not yours as you would your own.

I ASSume you would have no problems with a dealer tech "beating" on your car.

FWIW, if I beat on a car for few hours it probably wouldn't be running for more than a week or so after I had my hands on it.

WHAT!? No waaaay, please don't tell us that your gonna buy one, I think a tear went down my face..

and btw... 05 EVO's handling wasn't better than the STI IMO. But I will admit, I feel in love with that gear box.. wow, is that thing smooth...

I have to vouch for this, I got to have fun for a few days with an 04 evo 8. Its moderate on the street and easy to drive, but the little bit of oversteer makes it awesome on the dirt.

And if you are concerned about someone playing with a used evo, get over it. Its used. The previous owner probably beat it and got tired of it. You take the chance getting a bad car any time you buy used.

WTH do you think they did to my car while it was on the lot? If you want a car that has never been driven hard. Buy new.
Problem solved.
And me driving a car "hard" is how most subaru owners drive daily. I'm sure 1 0-60 didn't hurt it.

Got the car back same day. I have no clue why they would need it back to solve paperwork issues, but they aren't getting it back again. The up side is they always bring it back clean and with a full tank. That being said, in the last month I have put gas in it once

The Evo handled pretty well but I love the extra luxury my STi has, especially since it is a daily driver. If I was concerned about driving it on a track, it would have been a different story.

If I remember correctly, the STi's that came out the same year the EVO VIII came out (2004) had NO stereo deck.

If I had driven a 04 EVO, and owned a 04 STI, I would have said something along the lines of... "OMG, it has a stereo!" However, I'm comparing a 05 EVO to my 05 STI, so in this instance, I'm saying... "What a piece of... junk... this stereo is." But you're correct, 04's STI's had no music other than the sweet sound of the exhaust!

Quick Rack for the win. That'll be one of my next investments after the car is paid off this winter.

Look into getting some kind of Anti-Lift Kit for your car. It radically improves toe control and turn-in. It helps to get rid of the tendency in our cars for oversteer.

Linky:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=682924

That, and if you intend on lowering the car you'll want a roll-center/bumb-steer adjustment kit. This will include lowered ball joints and modified tie rod ends...

I wish I would have demanded a comparible car.

When I took my Rex in to get some warranty work done they stuck me with a 2-wheel drive GMC Colorado (or Canyon.. whatever it was) for a week.

If said car is.. A: A rental and B: An EVO, you are obligated to do some 'spirited driving'. Or in other terms, RAIL ON IT.

And I would never buy a rental car anyway. Its like buying a used hotel bed.

Gross.

I was wondering this, why did WSP have to inspect it? Andrew did that for his RS but is a salvage title from California.

I am just hoping you didnt pay that much for a car that has a rebuild title.

What vehicles are inspected by the State Patrol?

The State Patrol performs physical inspections on vehicles that have been rebuilt after being destroyed or declared a total loss by an insurance company. They also will perform physical inspections as required on vehicles reported stolen, homemade vehicles, or other vehicles without a proper VIN, when there is a VIN discrepancy, when there is a record dispute, when ownership is in doubt, or other special cases.

this is all I found on the WSP website. Not sure though, maybe there is another reason.

VIN issues?
