Default CPU/RAM upgrade help

I have a athlon 64 3800 IIRC. The mobo supports much faster but I have no clue what to upgrade to.

• Supports 64-bit AMDŽ Opteron™, Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core, Athlon™ 64 FX, Athlon™ 64 processor (Socket 939)
• Supports up to 3500+, 3800+ Athlon 64 FX 53, or higher CPU

Pick one that I wont have to upgrade for a while I think the opteron is better than the FX processors?

Im also getting 2gb more of ram and windows 7 64bit.

• Supports dual channel DDR 266/333/400Supports dual channel DDR 266/333/400, using four 184-pin DDR DIMMs.
• Supports a maximum memory size up to 4GB without ECC.
• Supports 2.5v DDR SDRAM DIMM.

I have 2 x 1gb atm do i need the exact same RAM or can i get whatever. It will run off the slowest of the two correct?

Hopefully these upgrades should last a 2 years or so.

Just buy a new mobo, buying DDR RAM at this point and a 939 processor is not a good choice.

You can get something much much faster (your proc is from 2003) and much cheaper than just the RAM and proc will be.

hmm, what can i get for around 175 ish. I didnt think that I could buy newer /faster for the same price. My vid card is older but not horrible x1800xt. It works for the **** that i need it.

Athlon 64x2 5800 is around 75 and the memory is around 75 as well.

I'm guessing you could buy a whole new damn computer out of the box for 250.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116091 2.8 GHz proc $72
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231055 2x1GB RAM $45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135232 Mobo $50 (35 after rebate)

So for under $175 you have something at least 4 times as fast as what you were thinking of getting.
