Exclamation Tutorial: How to add photos to your posts

Tons of people ask how to add photos to their posts, so here's a step-by-step method on how to do it. There are two methods:

Linking a file from the Internet

Onwards to the step-by-step.

Step One: First thing to do is hit "new thread" or "post reply" depending on when/why you are posting. Next, type out the text of your thread. No picture here folks .

Step Two: Next, go to the webpage with the photo you are looking to link, and right click the picture (not on the page, it MUST be on the picture itself. A box will pop up- go all the way down and click on "properties." You should see another box pop up, and it will look something like this:

There is a value titled "Address (URL)"- that is the URL for the picture. Highlight that value (everything including "http" all the way to the end (it may be a very long URL and run on besides what you can see... keep highlighting until you have ALL of it, or it will not work). DO NOT use the URL in the Address bar of your browser!

Step Three: Take the URL you just copied, and insert it between "image tags" as seen below:

If you do not use that exact format, the picture will show up on the board as a "Red X" box.

Step Four: The last thing to do is to check your work:

NOTES: Many sites, geocities and angelfire being among them, will NOT allow you to directly link photos in this manner- don't bother trying. The best thing you can do is simply post the URL of the picture without the image tags- readers will simply have to click the link to see the photos.

Adding a file from your hard drive is enabled for NASIOC Supporter Members only.

Adding a file from your hard drive

The first thing you need to do is to make certain the file you wish to upload is less than 51k. If it is larger, the proceedure outlined below will work, but you will not find a file attached when you are done. Secondly, you need to make sure it is in an internet-friendly format. You can use .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .gif files (no bitmaps) as a format for your attachments. If you file is larger than 51k or not in one of these formats, it will not work. Use a photo editor to change the format and shrink the size. Jpg's are good because they are compressible to reduce size. You may also change the physical size of the attachment to reduce the file size (it is good to use a maximum size of 640X480 or 800X600 on the board, as larger photo sizes run off the edges of the page). Onwards to the step-by-step.

Step One: First thing to do is hit "new thread" or "post reply" depending on when/why you are posting. Next, type out the text of your thread. Finally, click the "Browse" button next to "Attach File." I've encircled it in red below:

Step Two: After clicking on that button, a box will pop up, allowing you to browse your drives for the file you wish to attach, as seen below.

When you find it, either click it and hit "Open" or just double click it.

Step Three: Well, no step three really- just check to see if it works:

If you have any questions, you know where to find me .
