Default Shop Manual Guys: Intake Manifold Removal

Could someone with the shop manual possibly post a scan of the intake manifold removal process? I'm particularly interested in the torque values and such. I'll be your best friend...

Well I have no scanner but here's Greg's attempt at translating pictures into words:

Each cylinder head has 4 bolts connecting it to the intake manifold. Each bolt gets 25NM (18.1 ft-lbs) of torque. There is no specific torque sequence mentioned. The manual specifically mentions that new gaskets must be used

That's it. Of course you need to remove all of the other stuff that's required to actually get the manifold off (intercooler, cables, wires, etc) but that should be easy.

If you need any clarification you can post here or email me: [email protected]

Or just buy me a scanner

You say you want the process for removing the intake manifolds and you're worried about torque values? I presume you're a Gator (and not some infidel [aka semihole]), so I'm working on it. Could be a long thread. Might not be finished tonight, though .... spousal obligations, etc.., but the scanner is warming up.

Not to butt in (but I did) I think it stinks. Folley can spend $2 million a year and that is the best guy he could find?

Oh well, looks like we are a basketball school now.

Sorry for the delay. It's still hard for me to get a scanned 8.5x11.5 page down to 51200 bytes and still be legible. A couple of the pages are very close to the limit and I hope this system accepts them.

Here's the physical relationship among the parts. The starred items should be replaced when you reassemble.

I don't have to take my intake manifold off any time soon but I sure this will come in handy!
Very nice!
Thanks Jon

Wow that looks like entirely too much fun. Now where did I put those NO FIRE signs... Conduit, I think I'd try like hell to squeeze that inlet tube in before going this route.

Wow, same with me. No plans to remove my intake, yet, but this is great. Thanks.

Wow, stand out work Jon.

Much appreciated... although I don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon

Removing the Intake Manifold is part of the Subaru-recommended method for replacing the Intake Duct (the thing the Sameco hose replaces). Once you have the Intake Manifold off, then some additional DIY mods are possible:
1) Knife-edging and polishing the TGVs
2) Figuring out a way to bypass the heating of the intake with engine coolant (I doubt Counduit needs this feature in FL).

I heartily agree with other responders. This procedure isn't for the faint-hearted.

But now on to the more important sub-topic raised in this thread: the future of UF football.

I was stunned when I read that Spurrier had called Folley from the beach to say that he was cancelling his contract (where exactly is the value of an emplyment contract in sports when everyone feels they can break it with impunity?). From my hazy recollection, Zook defenses where characterised by an inability to make tackles. UF defenders seemed to believe that throwing their bodies at a ball carrier was the way to do it. In my book tackling's a fundamental defensive skill, and poor tackling is an indicator of poor coaching.

I began buying Gator football season tickets in 1990, when I heard that Spurrier had been hired as head coach. Four tickets in the TD Terrace, which require a $1K per ticket "contribution" to the Gator Boosters, beyond the price for the actual tickets. So that means I've "contributed" $48K total over the last 12 years years.

I've decided now that this past season will be the final one and I don't plan to renew my order. This whole episode seems so surreal from up here in CT. I kept thinking that people (Spurrier) would come to their senses and say "J/K." But I guess not.

First, Thanks a million Jon! This is super helpful. To show my gratitude, I'll photograph the removal process and get some good shots while I'm in there of the TGVs, etc. and post them. I'm pretty confident about working on it, but I like having something there when that mood changes!

Second, I just don't know what to think about Zook. Some friends of mine and I want to go see their spring training so we can take a good, long look at what's changed. Perhaps his stint in the pros will have improved some of his fundamentals. I can tell you that the general mood down here is, "You hired who? What the...". Alot of people are predicting that he will get two seasons at best. The real question is what kind of recruiting power Florida just lost. Not alot of high school kids are going to know or care who Zook is. Ah well, they can give my wrx a jersey if they like

take care,
rob
