First, Thanks for a great day,40 cars, 7 subies, 3 were WRX's.
Special thanks to HOK 2.2 RS(very fast when it runs) Sat in my passenger seat for some Data logging. Had MAF go on him just when he got to the track. ScoobieSnaX WRX Wagon UTEC stage 4 (very nice looking wagon) Justin RS who organised the day Great guys The track is approx 2 mile road course with drag strip as the main straight. Now onto the UTEC's performance My cars mods are Turboxs UTEC STI injectors Supra fuel pump HKS EZ boost controller VF34 Samco hoses Knife edged intercooler elbows Knife edged throttle body Gasket matched exhaust manifolds Uppipe with ceramic coating and wrapped Ported and polished inlet, ceramic coated and wrapped Turboxs Uppipe Turboxs midpipe Prodrive muffler Underdrive pulleys Whiteline handling pack Stock wheels with Toyo T1-s Axxis Ultimate pads Temperature during the day was between 36f to 50f(perfect for turbos) Altitude here in Calgary is 3600ft MAP pressure without engine running was -2.2psi The UTEC was tuned for 92 octane by me with the wonderful help of Nathan over the phone during the week. NO WB was used. I mixed toluene into the fuel to get 95octane. As this was a very hard test I elected to stay with the 92octane map using 95octane. UTEC parameters were left as sent from Turboxs TPS was still at 60% although Nathan suggested I move down to TPS 40% Timing was controlled from 40% load and up. Driving No knock was detected over 3 very hard 8 -10 lap sessions except when hitting the rev limiter a few times where the ecu cut fuel causing a momentery knock. I hit 7200rpms a few times and twice hit 7400 as my logs recorded. The transistion from ECU timing and UTEC is absolutely seamless. Maximum EGT's between 1525f and 1550f. I pulled out a bit of timing in the 3500rpm to 4200rpm so torque was not so violent and was still getting wheel spin in 3rd gear coming out of corners. The cars a rocket at 20psi(which is 18psi for you sea level guys). Racing Results IMHO ScoobieSnaX put on a really good show. RSX-s boys(now little boys) Blew everything etc away, I believe he had a good run with a Supra TT but I was working on HOK's car at the time. He and I were in different groups based on track knowledge where I had been at this track before so we didn't get to run together. HOK didn't run because of MAF problem, but would have been very fast. Justin RS is fast for an NA and real quick in the turns. He was staying with some of the RSX guys.It was also fun going 3 subies abreast down the main straight with him. I ran alot faster than a new 350Z although he was automatic(good brakes though) AMG SLK32 (349hp) was beaten over 5 laps and I was pulling about 80yds on him down the main straight hitting 210KPH(131MPH). He was braking very late but couldn't keep with me down the straights. Track setup M3 lighten with race tires was quick down the straight but funny not in the corners. I firmly believe that the stock wheels with the lighter Toyo T1-S tires gave me a big advantage down the straights but sucked in the turns, althought I was able to keep my distance from any other car behind through the bends(just). Brakes I'll just say need major work. The transmission is in perfect condition and I for one don't think it is glass. UTEC SCORE CARD I can not believe how fabulous this thing is. It starts when cold/hot/air conditioning. It pulls timing before the Knock Link is even on the second green. It can be tuned by me who is very very limited in engine tuning. The cars a rocket as out dragging a AMG SLK32 shows. YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! If you guys like other ECU's so be it, but the knock correction on the UTEC is unbelievable and hard to pass up.IMHO Maybe ScoobieSnaX will post to explain the day even more. I still have hearing problems from his exhaust. We both burnt our rear bumpers(he runs something on the lines of HKS)his pretty bad, mine you have to look under to see. Be aware that continued high speed driving did this and does not happen when driving normally. Lastly, For sale =slighty used Knock Link . __________________

Yes I left at lunch as did ScoobieSnaX. Around 1:30pm. We used the day as a tune session and as you can see my car is now tuned good enough for me.
There was some really crazy inexperienced people in some of the other groups(IN THE MORNING) with a few banging there cars on various things around the track. Thought it was better to stop while still in one piece as I have deposit on STI already. |

Ya, what a day! First time racing the car on that track and WOW....lots o' fun
![]() My rear bumper is melted pretty good. I have to get the muffler shop to lenghten my Blitz custom Turbo-back a bit so the pipe actually vents a hair past the plastic As for the UTEC, I was using a map sent by Phil recently which replaced my original stage4 map. I was using pump gas (92 octane) with a map that had +26 degrees of timing in the upper range. I was getting detonation randomly at 5400rpm, 5900rpm, and the odd time at 6200rpm. Adding fuel didn't do much by lap 3 or 4. Once the car started to really heat up the detonation became more noticeable. I have datalogs showing the UTEC pulling 16 degrees of timing out at one point! After taking out 1 degree in the top end and around 5500 things went quite smoothly... On/Off throttle and part throttle response is pretty good. I can sure tell when the UTEC kicks in though. It sort of feels like V-TEC in a Honda . This must be due to differences in the ECU's timing/fuel compared to the values I'm transitioning to provided by the UTEC. I think with a little tweaking I could get it a bit smoother. I want to stress that the transition from ECU to UTEC was'nt a bad thing. I knew where it was and could deal with it easily...Now I just need to get my hands on some Toluene!!! ![]() ![]() |

I played around with the UTEC this past weekend and think this is a much better unit then the unichip. The one MAJOR drawback I have noticed is that it still piggy backs off the stock base fuel MAP and adjusts it. So as the OEM ECU adjusts the fuel delivery overtime the UTEC will constantly need to be adjusted for those changes.
