Default '04 STi Insurance...

I knew this would come up, so I beat ya'll to it. And yes, you can say "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

I really think the insurance is gonna be high. BIG 4 cyl. TURBO, 300HP. I'm scared.

If it does well on crash tests (like every other subaru vehicle does) the insurance should be reasonable on it.

I get 35% discount on my insurance. Wife works for insurance company, so we don't pay the commission on the policy.

Me: 25, clear record
Wife: 31, 2 speeding and 2 wrecks(one at fault) in last year.

My guess is that the rates will be MASSIVE. This car has the most powerful 4 cylinder motor available in the U.S. PERIOD. I think the insurance companies will charge a premium for us to own the most powerful 4 cylinder motor on the market. It will be worth it.

I'm not worried about theft, as the only real motivation anyone would have to steal any Impreza, is to joyride, and here in NYC where chop shops etc are big buisness they wont even bother trying to steal your car unless they can make decent money by "chopping" it up and parting it out. There is not a good enough parts market for subaru's so they are quite low on the list of cars that the thieves look at.

Why would the insurance co's care if it's the most powerful 4 cylinder on the market, what's being a 4 got to do with it. I could go buy a mustang cobra or a SS Camaro and have > 300Hp. I don't personally think the insurance co's care about that.

My WRX had super cheap insurance for the first 6 month until everyone started crashing them and the insurers found out the cost of repairing them is higher than an L series, that's what really hikes the prices up. Here's hoping they do the same with this one, but everyone please take note when you get one, DO NOT CRASH YOUR STi. (like you really needed me to remind you... ) That way insurance premiums should stay kinda low.

My $0.02.

Theft won't be a problem......they won't be making enough of them for there to be a black market of STi parts. Limited number also means the difficulty in fencing the parts increases astronomically. And you gotta remember that hardly anyone is going to know what Impreza STi is anyway.

Don't kid yourselves. The STi rates are going to be quite high. It's a hot-rodded version of the WRX, a car that already has very high rates due to the astronomical (and still growing) number of claims made against it.

When the STi crashes come (and they will, unfortunately), rates will get even higher.

Just a few things that insurance companies look at are where you live, loss record for a car (potential loss record if it's a new model), its power rating (sports car or not), and other factors. The WRX got a bit of a pass because it was so new, and was still being called a plain ol' Impreza by many insurers.

Not so with the STi. But hey, the question is, will it be worth the insurance cost to drive the car?

I think 60% of the insurance cost is driver age, sex, record.

I asked my brother, the insurance agent, to guess what the insurance would be for a 300HP WRX. I asked him last night, he just called me back...he's still laughing.

i am also concerned with the rates. no matter how much i like a vehicle, i refuse to pay premiums half or more than half the cost of the monthly car payment....

Don't kid yourself.

B18C5 ring any bells? WRX are not in the same sales league as Hondas, but their
is a big enough market for this engine. When all else fails, their is Ebay. Even exporting front clips (sort of a change from the JDM importing shops do now )

I think subaru should offer a dobermine with every purchase...

Wonder . . .

Bet that insurance companies are looking at this site. DOT was looking at it when there were some initial complaints about ABS problems.

Yup, this is a safe and reliable car that is sure to reduce accidents! In fact, driving this car will actually cure many diseases. Yup, this is a wholly true and reliable response!

I wish that were true, but I'm reminded of those stories about Audi's RS4.
