Default STi shaved for Stealth....photochopped

I'm a total photoshop noob. This is the best I could do. I wanted to make it silver, but couldn't find a way to do it.

Stickers.............gone
Wing..................gone
Scoop................gone (assume a FMIC)
Gold wheels......very gone
orange lenses...very very gone
goatee............added

Now, this is a car I could own.

P.S.
Please don't start talking about the loss of performance for doing this or the how similar some of are to "Honda-boys" for caring so much about the car's look. There are other threads for that. Just comment about the look. Keep it freindly.

Thank you.

I am planning on everything you've done ... except the scoop

I think that replumbing for a front mount would probably require a larger opening to allow the radiator to still operate efficiently ... and since I plan on doing a lot of track time ... I can't make that compromise. ... don't get me wrong .. I would drop the hood scoop in a second ... I just don't want to sacrifice any function.

Thanks for doing the leg work .. it helps me focus my thoughts on what I want to do

My APS R Series FMIC fits perfectly in the space below the black part of the bumper fascia. Radiator cooling isn't an issue. The the top opening is un inhibitted by the FMIC.

I went to an autoshow today and saw a few turbo deisel truck that had and oil cooler in front of 80% of the FMIC that was in front of 100% of the A/C exchanger which was in front of the radiator. Teh FMIC was nearly the same size as the radiator. That made the radiator sit behind 3 other heat exhangers. A big truck vs. the STi is not really apples-to-apples, but it's an interesting thing that I saw.

If you do road courses often, I think the TMIC and huge scoop will do fine against heat soak since you don't have to stop. I think the big scoop would look funny without the wing.

I'm sorry but I don't see the point here. No matter what you do to the car it is never going to be stealth. Think about it, people now think RS's are WRX's because the general population is not intrested enough to make the distinction. People will just assume that the car they see is the cool one that they heard about from a magazine or friend. Removing all the STi stuff might make it a liitle more inconspicuos(sp?) , but not stealth. Your pics do offer a good look at the new RS though.

I simply think that the top-mount is a very eficient design, and it keeps the "character" of the car intact. The fact is that the radiator is specced for a car with a TMIC. Giving it 20-30% less flow WILL effect it's performance in ways that I don't have the time nor motivation to investigate. I don't want to find out in the middle of a 30 minute session on a 100 degree track day at Motorsports Ranch in Texas.

For me it isn't about stealth ... it's about a "clean" look.

With 18" gunmetal CE28N limiteds with gold Brembos peaking through ... stealth isn't the aim ...

I have given a lot of thought to the hood scoop without wing ... and I think that the stock hood scoop would look fuinny ... but I think that the scoop on the Impreza produced by STI at the '03 TAS would be perfect ... it appears to be wider and lower than the stock scoop.

The stock scoop looks silly with or without a wing ... the wing just multiplies the "cartoon" factor.

I certainly appreciate the p-chop effort. I think the car looks nice with the mods you made and between the STI bumper, 17" or 18" wheels, and a lower stance the car could look very agressive without being quite so loud. But, I'm not sure I can see spending the money to do all of that just to get the look.

I think it looks horrible. Maybe you should by an RS and modify it, instead of doing such a sacrilegious act.

Like I've said before. It's just a CAR, not God.

.....and by the time you buy a 2004 RS, swap engines, transmissions, trailing arms, sway bars, wheels, tires, turbo it, change hoods (steel vs. aluminum), change seats, shifters, cluster, diffs, rear glass, add water sprayer, and the numerous other things, you will spend WAY more on the project than simply buying the STi, and doing what I would do to it.

I have no doubt that the stock TMIC is sufficient. For me I don't like the heat soak. I don't/won't do track days. And I hate the STi scoop. FMIC drops the center of gravity slightly and make more room for power when your ready to go further. So TMIC vs. FMIC is an "to each is own" issue.

As far as character goes, I guess the WRC car is out of character too since it uses a front mount.

The advantage is cooling capacity and less heat soak. Lower CG doesn't hurt either. A 600hp STi would be great! Why? You can whoop up at the drag strip and still kill at the road coarse at the same time..all in a four-door car that allows up-right seating.

Center of gravity isn't everything ... moving weight from high to way out front may lower the center of gravity ever so slightly while also worsening the moment of inertia ... think dumbelll versus disc. It's a wash. If you could move the intercooler behind the driver's seat ... now you've got it.

That's why I said "slightly"

We are geeting off the original point here. The original topic was simply about the look, not performance. We pretty much have a 50/50 split of those that like the wing and those that don't. I would say about 25% don't like the STi scoop. I alone prefer it to be gone completely. I think my shaved car makes for a descent looking sports sedan, more like a 2002 S4. It'll have the gentle and style look with a mentality of evil intentions

It's amazing what a difference the lights make. Looks like I will have to do the home headlight mod on mine. Just compare the WRC car and production to see the huge difference in real life. The photoshop looks great.

Personally, I'd like the WRC hood w/ FMIC and the small rear spoiler with car in painted white or silver. No, not exactly stealth but not quite arrest me either. The whitening-out of the headlights sure looks great.

Sacrilege! Heresy! Burn the witch!

Sorry, the STi purists have me in a bit of a mood.

Honestly, I do think it needs something. Can you do a version with a standard WRX scoop and wing? (...and make it red?)

I don't really know how to change the color smoothly. I actually hand brushed the wheels and lights. To do what you want, it would be simpler to paint over the side shirts and fog lights on a WRX picture. For me removing is easier than adding.

Yeah, an inset reverse scoop would be a cool too.

FYI, photoshop users...Making a blue car silver is easy and the steps to do it work out pretty well...

Take the image and go into the blue channel. Select All and Copy it. Go back to the layers section and Paste it. Then change the layer blending mode to lighten. Flatten image and save. You may need to adjust a few things, but without much work it's pretty good and VERY easy to do (1 min job).

My website is all f'd up right now, so can't post any pics...Try it out

Heretic I may be, but I had just finished gathering pics to photoshop myself when I came across this one...thanks for saving me the time! I think it looks great 'stealthed'.

Really, just because *I* know I have 300hp on tap doesn't mean mr. law enforcement needs to know...

...maybe I'll do mine up anyway and add the RS badging to it. It'd be a heck of a sleeper...

Exactly. I woouldn't even bother with the RS badging. No badging keeps all of those out of the know, out of the know. People still ask me what kind of car it is that I drive.

I don't know if any of the current FMIC's out there will fit yet, but with other countries getting a head start on the STi, there should be one by the time it arrives here. I'll also need that much time to learn fibre-glass techniques to make a cover for the hole in the hood after the scoop is removed.

I like it. My personal preference would be to have a lower reverse scoop to get the heat out and a wing for track days use that would quick disconnect for street driving which is most of the time.

If FMI is a problem, one could use a water to air IC like early Subys and the Vortec folks do. Pros and cons.

No scoop = no gay boys trying to rub up against your blowoff valve.

Scoops and wings on a saloon are for attracting attention.
You don't find scoops and wings on an M55...

But I'm still going to leave mine bone stock.
Modifying an STi will only detract from its resale value, pretty much whatever you do. A pedigreed special edition by Prodrive or Tommy Kiara or some equally reputable tuner would work but, in my conservative opinion, hacking a factory tuner should be confined to beaters unless you really do have that much money to kiss goodbye.

I know... opinion are like @ssholes and I just farted.

Why would you spend 30+ thousand dollars on a vehicle and rip off the badges? God I hate that crap. I know this is just a photoshop version, but there are people that plan to do this. And they need to be shot.

Stealth? Don't be an idiot. Anyone you are trying to "stealth" from will know enough about vehicles to identify what it is. Go buy a Honda CRX if you wanna do this kind of garbage. That way you can "stealth" all day long and no one will give a crap.
