Default Axle Spline Count

Does anybody have the axle spline counts for the 2000-2001 2.5RS (front and rear), a 2000 Legacy (front), and a WRX( front and rear)? I asked the yard for axles for a 2000 2.5RS to go onto my WRX drivetrain, but I got a set of 2000 Legacy front axles and a set of 1995 Legacy rear axles instead. Since I don't have the drivetrain here yet, I can't count the splines to know if they will work or not. I have the WRX FSM, but I can't see a spline count in there, only axle length and diameter. Would it maybe be better to just send all the axles back and then wait until my drivetrain arrives? I am paranoid about having $180 worth of axles that may or may not work.

In looking up the axles on www.car-part.com I find that searching for the front 2.5L axles for a 2000 brings up Legacy and Impreza axles. However, searching for the rears brings up only 2000-2001 RS axles. The dealership says that the parts for the 2000 Legacy axles and the 2000 RS axles are different. She said that some axles come with 23 splines and some with 25 but she has no way of knowing except to count the splines...

You put an LSD in? If you were merely swapping from drums to disks then your stock axles should have been fine. Or am I missing something here?

I have been able to deduce most of them. Since all front axles from like 1994 or something like that have been interchangable, the only differences will be the axle diameter. Also, the outer splines on the rear axles are all the same since I can put WRX awd hubs on my L without switching axles. So now the only thing I am missing is the inner spline count for the LSD and non-LSD axles.

Turns out the 1995 Legacy rear axles are all wrong and they sent me the wrong axles. I should have a set of 2000+ RS rear axles in about a week so I'll have almost everything.

Hi, Jack !

I've done a little archive reading, and I wanted to check something about axle compatibility. I'm interested in using a 1994 FWD tranny for a project (porsche 914). From what I've read, the differential is an "outie", right ? (i.e., it has splined shafts protruding.) Then the "green thing" (CV outer case ?) has a female splined opening that slips onto the outie and is held by a roll pin. Correct so far ? Okay, so my big question : are the splines on a 1994 FWD tranny compatible with the "green thing" off of any 1994-2000ish front axle ? I'm hoping to score a pair of those green things and make some hybrid drive shafts.

Thanks.

Default 2000 Legacy Outback Rear

The table above is incorrect with respect to the rear Legacy Outback 2000 axles. The outer (hub) spline is 25 and larger than the spline of an Impreza.

I'm trying to build a rear out of Subaru parts for a custom application. I can confirm by hands-on experience that the 2000+ Legacy, Legacy Outback and Baja have 25 spline hubs and the axles are incompatible with an Impreza.

but what about the rear diff? can i plug my 99 impreza axels into that or am i looking at the end of my preza, the legacy that i'm looking at tearing apart is technically a perfect car BUT its not my preza, blew the auto trans in mine and want to do a swap to 5speed, the donor car is currently looken to be a 2000 legacy 2.5L 5speed with 4.11 gears have to check the engine make sure is just out of time, before i even began taking aprt this to stick in my pretza will it work? as far as i know the subframes are no good from the legacy for in it sounds like the axels wont fit the hub, any one have a clue? cause i cant seem to find one

back from the dead.

Does anyone know 06-07 wrx rear axle spline count? I've acquired 07 wrx rear hub spindle/knuckle with 2pot caliper and I want to see if I can install it to my 01 RS.
