Default It's Official: Montauk Backroads Drive- Oct 5th 2003

Mark it in your calanders, the First Official Backroads Drive to Montauk is happening on October 5th, 2003!!!!

Montauk is often referred to "The End". I thought it would be fitting to name this drive "Driving to The End". (Other suggestions are welcomed)

Details:

The 'official' start will be at the rest area between exits 65 and 66 on the LIE.

The Donn has set up a Western Suffolk/Nassau meeting spot up at exit 49N on the LIE at the Park & Ride at 9:30am. Be there early!!!

10:00-10:30am- Meet up at the rest area, handing out directions.
10:30-11:00am- Go over directions and address any questions people may have.

11:00- Driving to The End begins.

12:30-1:00- Approximate arrival time to stop for lunch.

1:30-2:00- Approximate departure time.

4:00pm- Approximate arrival time to Montauk Lighthouse.

Guys, I need your help!!!! Help is needed in organizing a meet-up point at Alley Pond Park, and somewhere near the Nassau-Suffolk line. Please PM me if you can help out. I will work with those individuals to set up times, so please make sure to check back often to be up to date.

ALSO: I need a headcount of who's coming, and number of passengers if you have any. I need this to call ahead for lunch, so they reserve enough seats for us. Please PM me to let me know how many you are expecting.

Please also be advised, that there may be a $6.00 fee to get into the parking lot at Montauk. If the lighthouse is opened when we arrive, there is a seperate admission charge to tour it.
Also, there are some grills at the parking lot if people wish to bring some food and supplies. If there is interest, I will update the post to include those. Also, you may want to bring sweatshirts and/or pants, since the tempature there will be about 10 degrees cooler than it is anywhere else on the island.

Sounds nice. You can put me down as a "maybe". The only thing is I may have to cut out a little early. That night starts a major holiday.

List has been updated, and also some additional information:

- A meeting place has been set up at exit 49N park & ride at 9.30am by TheDonn.

- Make sure you fill your tanks up with gas beforehand; I've seen gas prices out there as high as $2.52 for 93, and $2.37 for 87

Still needed:

Someone to coordinate a meetup and leave time from Alley Pond Park. Please keeep in mind that you'll want to arrive at the 49N park and ride before 9.30, so you can leave at 9.30am.

-Mike

PS- I wasn't aware of the holiday on Sunday night, and I apologize to you guys and gals... Unfortunately, this is the only open weekend to plan such a cruise.
