Default Winter meet in NY State

I'm gauging interest in a winter meet. I would like to set it up in the central NY area (that's where I live and it would eliminate a lot of foot work for me), but I can be fairly flexible. I'm looking into setting this at the NY State Fairgrounds in Syracuse NY.

I would like to include events like Autocrossing on a snowy surface (or ice, if the weather is permitting), a Drift competition, on snow of course, and a Snow Drag race. All events would be single car, best time wins, to prevent accidents and such.

I'm looking into insurance costs, Snow machine rentals, and rent for the venue. It looks like there would be a small fee (hoping for around 5 dollars or less). Nobody would be making money off this, it's just to pay for expenses. If I get enough interest in this I will chase down some sponsors and vendors and hopefully make it a free event.

I'm very serious about putting this together. I think it would be a great opportunity for those that don't get much snow to play. I'm not currently planning on keeping this Subaru specific, so if you have some friends that would be interested give them a heads up.

For now, you can post any comments or suggestions here or PM me. I'll have an e-mail account for this event set-up in a day or so that I'll post here so people can contact me about this and I can keep all their contact info handy.

Thanks!

Dave.

I would definately be interested in that! I live in Binghamton and go to SUNY. I don't know how many responses you may get but hopefully enough to make this happen.

You should try all other Impreza forums to see if there is enough interest. If you need any help feel free to e-mail me at jkt354@aol.com or shoot me a message on AIM: same name as email. I can even make flyers to pass out at the local car hangout here.

I will tell my friends about this. I can round up about between 4-10 other cars (depending on their schedules) - possibly more.

I'm down.
I went to school in SU so it takes no convincing to get me to go back. BTW - Dinosaur BBQ is finger licking good.

Well, I havn't gotten much response anywhere else I've posted. I'm scaling this back a little for the moment. Right now, an early estimate puts me at about 25 people attending. that means no luck on getting in at the Fairgrounds and no snow machine . But, I still plan on making this thing happen, one way or another.

I'm looking into using an empty parking lot (lots of those in central NY ) and I'm hoping the weather cooperates. I'm hoping to have a website up in the meantime so people can have someplace to go for updates.

We'll see where this takes us from here. Here's hoping for a snowy winter

Well, I can definately bring about 10-15 cars up. This is just from word of mouth to people I know around here. If I were to make flyers and talk to people at the car harngouts, I may be able to get ~25+ people so don't scale it back yet!!

If you post on BuffaloScooby you might get a better response from the Rochester and Buffalo guys.

Also, have you posted at forums for any other makes? (since you mentioned not limiting this to Subarus)

And don't forget we can post this up in other car forums as well. It doesn't have to be exclusive to subaru's. FWD, RWD AWD are welcome.

`we should wait for zuriel to post to see if he's up for it`
