Serious thread : Friend is missing...
This is serious, so please dont say anything "smartass-ish"...thanks
Last Thursday it was my friends 24th birthday. We had a party for him, blah blah and he decided to take the next day off of work because he had an errand to do. Well along comes Saturday, call him but his cell phone is off. Ok, whatever not a big deal. Well Sunday comes along, no Ian. Monday, no one has seen or heard from him. His roommates, family, all friends have not seen or heard from him since last Thursday, it being Tuesday we got together (friends and family) and started making calls. We called the CHP, all Sheriff counties, hospitals in the local area and even the Nevada highway patrol. Nothing. He hasnt been arrested anywhere. Hell we even called the Tiawana (sp) prisions and they do not have him either. We called Nextel and got his phone list / bill up to today and no calls have been made since thursday. We called all the out of area numbers and left messages, asked if they have seen him and nothing. So we are out of ideas...anyone have any? I guess we could call more hopsitals etc. I think we are going to put out an APB on his Jeep that he was in or something. Anyone have any advice? link to the TV station thing... http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/news/102...ssing_man.html News Paper Articles http://www.the-signal.com/News/ViewS...p?storyID=3398 http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1...716398,00.html -SF

Sounds like a weird and terrible situation to be in. Does he have any types of interests like the mountains or the beach etc.

Call his Credit Card companies and have his checking account frozen. You techniclly shouldn't be able to "close" anything, but you can notify them. They will want to know and internally may put a temp "freeze" on the accounts. If he is using them they are going to want to make sure it's him using them.
Good luck. |

Hasn't the persons family notified the police yet? They could track his credit cards, bank records, phone calls in order to see what might of happened and at the very least put out the word that he is missing.

I think the advice about the credit agencies/bank accounts is the best way to go. That and talking to the cops. They can link all that and see if he uses anything. That's really weird he would just dissappear like that. I'm assuming you've already checked by his house to make sure he's not inside?

Not to be sick, but honest.
Check his closet. I got done talking to a cop this weekend and the find people hung in their closet all the time. A birthday is a depressing time for me. Call his landlord. They usually can let you in with escort edit: speling. Last edited by WRXedUSA; 10-21-2003 at 08:47 PM. |

Definitely work with the police on this.
Tell them you want to go to the media, and ask if that's ok. Then call local news and give them the story. Give them a one-paragraph bio on your friend, make sure you've got a good photo of him too, dollars to donuts you can get it on the news. Choose one home phone with an answering machine and designate that the Tip Line (many people are reluctant to call police if they're not confident in their info, like "I think I saw him yesterday in a store...") |

Is this the same guy that went missing on honda-tech.com ? There was a story the other day on the news about a kid driving his jeep off of the interstate and it flew into the woods too far for people to see, he wasnt found for days. Does he have a car? Is it there? <-- dumb question, but asking. Good Luck!

Oh, and can one of the mods sticky this thread?
It can replace the "my band is going big-time" one. |

Not to sound stupid, but...
I'm *sure* people have checked his home since he went missing... I mean, isn't that obvious? The closet thing isn't obvious, though. Bring a cop, if there's a detective working the case... have him help by looking around. It may sound cliche, but there could be "clues" at his home. Edit: thinking about it for ANOTHER minute... the cops should definitely be doing the ENTIRE investigation at this point. Arrange the trip with them, go along to help out and provide info if that's ok, but this is their job. |

Is there a way you could check his email to see when was the last time he read or sent anything? You can probably check his computer for the most recently modified file to get an idea of when he last used it. I'm hoping for the best.

Ive had a friend do this a few times, he just disappears for a week and then comes back. The only way we found out what he was doing was to check with his boss at work cuz he let him now that he needed the time off.
