Default Another Basshead original...

you've all seen my award winning engine bay, now peep this...

~Full LED Tail Light Conversion~

Anyone got some space to host some pictures?

Had the week off since i am switching jobs and spent about 25 hours building them and countless hours researching what would work best for me and learning what it takes to build them. Cutting out the backs of my JDM tails was painful, but after it was all done it was well worth it. Looks awesome, bright as hell, and instant on.

works for me dave, thanks......

the LED's began their lives as this..

then i broke the arrays down into 2 - 6" (12 LEDs)strips for the turn signals and a 3"x3" and 3"x9" (36 LEDs)for the brake arrays (had to be 2 sections in order to fit inside the lense)

Then hot glued the arrays slightly on top of each other so they fit inside correctly and also glued over the leads of the resistors and rectifier diodes cause the chrome paint had metal flake in it...

then masked the LED's and painted them chrome so you can't see the wires and colors of the diode/resistors from outside

After a few test fittings i glued my ghetto rectifier diode setup(for the dim parking lights to the back of the brake arrays(no pcb's fit the fat leads of the 6 amp rectifiers) and proceeded test fitting the arrays and gluing them in place...

After getting the LED's in place i resoldered the wiring harness into place and put them back into my car...

sorry boys and girls i couldn't time the camera to pick up the turn signal at night but it looks great..also it picks up the circular effect of the LED which you really don't get with the human eye, and they kinda look uneven too, w-t-f?....they look better in person so someday you will all get to see em...

Dammit!
I was hoping to be the first!
subiegal linked this from another forum, I was struggling with how to paint the pcbs without shorting the diodes (good trick with the glue).
Would you mind sharing your schematic with me?

Next Project:
Put white LEDs in my rear spoiler (LED strip, no bulbs for high mount brake light). Tap into my reverse lights for super bright reverse! Tint on my back window makes reversing kinda touch and go...

Well done, btw!

PS. basshead's quoted price is actually pretty competitive. When I was a Nissan guy, there was a company that could do a full LED conversion (S14a)(on your lights, 1 week turnaround) for $800.

ya i was totally sitting there thinking "damn metal flake paint, i'm gonna have to mask off all the resistor/diode leads" then i looked down at my hot glue gun...'ding' idea!

I actually don't have a schematic for the layout since i could just seperate the LED strips into 3 led sections and position them accordingly. Then use the board connecting wires i got from them and tie it all together...as far as the parking lights and getting enough resistance/voltage drop so the LED's look dim. It was strictly 9 - 6amp rectifier diodes in series..and one 6 amp rectifier coming from the brake lead...turn signals need nothing except something to provide enough resistance to make the flasher, flash, normally...in my case i have tried a few "fixes" offered by various companies but 2 - 1157 bulbs soldered and hidden still work the best(normal)

It looks awesome and i have gotten lots of compliments from friends. It was kind of a pain in the arse to do but it's definetly custom, seriously gets people's attention when i brake, and was a great project for that week off i had...
