Default Official Patapsco Signup Thread: June 20, 2004

Who

Subie enthusiasts and <simpsons>well-wishers</simpsons>. I will crosspost this to TriState when we get closer, but the Mid-A people should have first crack.

When

June 20, 2004. Whenever people start showing up Last year it said 11-sunset, that sounds about right.

Where

Patapsco Valley State Park:
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan...scovalley.html
Mckeldin Shelter #576:
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan.../mckeldin.html

The directions, ripped right off the website:
Quote:
McKeldin Area - From I-695/I-70 West take I-70 to Marriottsville Rd. (Exit 83). Go north on Marriottsville Rd. for 4 miles to the park entrance on the right.

From I-70 East take Rt. 40 to Marriottsville Rd. Turn left. Park entrance is 5 miles on the right.

From Rt. 26 take Rt. 26 to Marriottsville Rd. Go South 4 miles, park entrance is on the left.
Bonus Directions from MDChevyGuy

Quote:
Hey I am going to add this bit of information to make the directions more detailed, hopefully the thread starter will see this and edit his first post so people have a better idea of landmarks, etc. that will make finding this place a little easier for those who are unacquainted to the area.

Ok here we go...
If you are coming from Points West on I-70 (Mt. Airy, Frederick, Hagerstown, etc.) after you pass the interchange for Rt. 32, get in your right lane. After climbing the large hill, you will come upon the I-70/US 40 Split. THERE IS NO DIRECT EXIT TO MARRIOTTSVILLE RD FROM THE EASTBOUND LANES OF I-70! Stay in the right lane and it merges off to form US 40 East Bound. Get in the left lane and you should see the Marriottsville Rd traffic light (its the first light on US 40 after the split). Hang a left.

From Points East (US 29, I-695, etc.) on I-70, after you pass the US 29 Interchange the next exit will be Marriottsville Road. It will be around 3 to 4 miles after the US 29 interchange. For those coming up US 29 from Montgomery County and DC, the exits for I-70 are the last exits for US 29. If you pass these exits, US 29 ends in the next mile, so you can just hang a U-turn and jump on I-70 with no problems. Also, they have modified the interchange so that you can access the Westbound lanes of I-70 from both the left and right lanes of US 29.

For those coming up I-95, I encourage you to exit off at Rt. 100 West and take it to US 29 instead of proceeding to I-695 as this is a faster and more direct route. Only word of caution is that the area just west of I-95 on Rt. 100 is a speed trap, so stay out of the left lane and you should be fine.

On Marriottsville Rd, you will go thru 2 traffic lights, and then proceed on this 2 lane road and you will go thru some curves, and eventually after a few miles you will cross over railroad tracks into Carroll County (Take it slow its a rough crossing, warning for lowered cars). Continue straight ahead on Marriottsville Rd and you will eventually cross into Baltimore County after a few miles. The park entrance is well marked and on your right hand side. If you pass by a shooting range and a rock quarry/construction company area, you have gone too far so turn around.

Hope this info helps.

That is the info I got that they require. So if I get hit with a bus, someone should be able to take this to them and still get the lot

Number of People

It sez 86 cars, 175 people, so some people might need to carpool if we run out of parking or something. But that's what wagons are for.

A total ripoff of Tim's description from last year

Here are the details and the things I'll need from everyone attending.
  • Time: Sunday, June 20 2004, 11am to sunset. (Or when everyone leaves.)
  • Let me know if you're coming, how many people are coming with you, and how many cars in your group. (Note, there's only 86 parking spots in the lot near the Pavilion, so first come first serve. )

If you could reply with some thing this:

    screen name - real name +# of people - car(s) - what you're bringing

    Example: mav1c - Tim +1 - Black WRX Wagon - Burgers & Rolls

Please do this instead of "I'm SO there" or "sounds cool" so we can get a head count

    What Should You Bring?
  • A small donation to help pay for the pavilion. It will depend on how many people we get, but it will be based on the $175 reservation fee. Just ask for Butt Dyno It'd be nice if I wasn't out $175!
  • Bring food, drink, paper plates, plastic cups, or whatever you'd like to offer. Think of it as a big BBQ Pot Luck. I'll try to keep the list updated with who's bringing what, and what we need as we get closer to the day
  • Bring at least one garbage bag and take take out whatever trash you can. This is important as NO TRASH can be left behind. At the last meet there was a lot of trash left for a few of us to clean up, which was pretty annoying, so please, clean up before you leave. It will be MUCH appreciated.
  • If you want to do any activities like Mountain Biking, Hiking, Frisbee, or whatever, bring what you'll need to do it.
  • I'm sure I'll think of more things, but that's it for now. This should be a FUN time!

The only thing I'll add is that we NEED to play Ultimate Frisbee

Some ideas about stuff to bring -

-charcoal/lighter fluid - the stuff we need to make fire, important prerequisite to grilling
-big ass cooler things
-sports equipment - if we have enough interest we can probably get a softball game going
-suntan lotion (you don't have to share, but you might want to bring some)
-those camp chair things, probably with your name on em.. you might not want to stand the whole time

ScoobArmada, Patrick, 2000 RS, Charcoal and Matches. I'll get the self-lighting kind so we don't have to mess with (be tempted by?) lighter fluid. I'll grab a couple bags, depending on how much charcoal costs. (spoiled by my gas grill...)

Count me in:

_mo_ + wife (maybe) WRB '03 WRX. I'll bring a bucket 'o' chicken. and maybe some sides.

Just a thought. There are two schools fairly close to the McKeldin area. One is a Public middle school on Rt. 99 a few miles away. Also, The Chapelgate Christian Accademy Is less than two miles away. They do have services there on Sunday morning, but after that (say 1 o'clock or so) it shouldn't be a problem to park some people there, and shuttle them to the park. Let me know if this interests you...my mom is the vice principal at Chapelgate, so I have an in there

mo

Oh yeah, and I'm in for a game of Ultimate

I don't think there will be any need to shuttle people. There was more than enough parking last year, and there are a couple other lots withing walking distance.
