If only there was a QUOTE function, which would allow one to quote whatever post one was replying to, thus preventing any confusion...

That looks like an awesome project. Great fab work! That is amazing how well that V12 fits in the engine bay. Is it a 60° V? I didn't see what the motor mounts are made of; hopefully really stiff. My sti engine would twist so far to the side I was contacting my front O2 sensor on the engine frame until I switched from the stock motor mounts to a hard poly motor mount. Just looks like the turbo's make it a somewhat tight fit but I am sure there won't be a problem with stiff motor mounts.

Jzk25,

Slightly off topic but figured you would know, are the twin turbo engine cross members now the same as the single turbo STi crossmembers?

looking at pics it seems like they may be the same but since you guys get both cars I figured I'd ask you.

thanks

Ben

Whilst ever there was twin turbo engines available the single turbos used the same X member. I think they kept the TT type Xmember going in the imprezas until the rack design changed in 06.

The V12 sits on an NA Xmember as it has nice flat areas for the mounts to sit on. The mounts are diesel nissan patrol and are very stiff.

Good to know thanks for the info, yea I was searching for photos of TT crossmembers and oddly enough my own image came up on google (lolz) from my STi swap in my BE which had the comparison of the 06 crossmember to mine and I realized it looks like it has the dual "troughs" for two uppipes already.

thanks again

Ben

The subaru world is imprezacentric but the reality of it is that the impreza is 3 years behind (at least) in design to the Legacy. The legacy is the flagship and gets all the new design, the impreza gets trickled down and modified versions(ever wonder where the under manifold intake came from and why it fits so badly?).

Ford went from 1979-2004 on the same chassis for the Mustang, the only change beside sheetmetal was a 4 inch stretch in 94.

I wouldn't cite the Fox chassis as a good example of just about anything!

they also used the Panther (Crown Vic chassis) almost as long.

and you can make the Fox Chassis do pretty much anything, it's insanely versatile.

This is true. I own a first gen Legacy built in Japan. The build date is in 1989 and the VIN starts with Japan instead of Indiana so I got a kick out of your reply.

My only correction is that the testing platform for some of the technology before the Legacy got it was both of the Alcyones (XT and SVX). When that went away they used the Tribecca

Progress is slowed now that I am back at work.
I have the R230 mounted in the subframe and am sorting a few other fiddly things out.
Wiring the Vipec will be the next job.

Have done some work on this.

Pulled the lower manifold to remove a no longer required heater pipe and sort out the knock sensor wiring(only using the inner two of the four).

Turned down the snout of the davies craig EWP to allow it to fit between bottom radiator tank and bits of engine and turbo.

Started the wiring yesterday, half of one of two looms wired. Need to consult Vipec tech to figure how to wire the injector pairs. Have figured out which Crank sensor to use with the help of Dale. Using the LH sensor which puts the two missing teeth at 180 BTDC instead of 0BTDC for the RH sensor.

Finished mounting and welding the rear subframe to house the R230 diff.

The crossmember has to come down about 20mm so the diff can clear the fuel tank, I am using Outback spacers for that.

Also decapped one of the injectors and had it flow tested next to a std injector. Stock injector flowed about 280cc, decap flowed 560, both with excellent patterns. Cracka will be able to run E85 if he wants with the decaps.
