Default 2012 Impreza 2.0i Hella Supertones Install

Here's how I installed Hella Supertones on my 2012 Impreza 2.0i.

I started with these instructions: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...38&postcount=1 and

I DID use the relay. I made my own harness using AWG 14 wire, and soldered all the connections, and wrapped them with heat-shrink tubing. The battery ring terminal is stud size 3/8", and the relay ground ring terminal is 1/4".

The OEM horn connector isn't anything that I could identify --it isn't a standard 0.250" disconnect like on previous models. I wanted to avoid cutting the OEM wiring so I improvized by using a two-prong spade connector. It fit perfectly into the conducting socket of the OEM connector, and I then taped it all up and zip tied the wires together on either side of the connection to absorb any stress.

There's a threaded screw hole (M6-1.00) in the frame right next to the wiper fluid reservoir, which is where I mounted and grounded the relay:

I grounded the horns to the point where I mounted them to the frame, using 1/4" stud ring terminals (I used M6-1.00x12 hex cap screws & nuts with lock washers to mount the horns).

Final product:

With grille:

I did have to angle the horns further down when installing the grille to get the top part to fit (the part that blocks rain from entering directly into the air intake). The horn bracket is touching the rubber anti-vibration mounts that are below the holes where I mounted them, which is probably fine, though it would have been nice to mount them so that they hung straight down.

I'm not familiar with the subaru scene - why do you care to upgrade your horn?

I have. It hardly ever gets used though so I don't really care that much.

I get cut off all the time, I think the dgm must be difficult to see. So I want horns loud enough that people hear them and jump a little

The horn in my Buick and our jetta are much more substantial then the subaru horn

Tonally they're similar to the stock horn, just much louder. Most recordings probably clip/compress the volume. My son didn't react when I was testing out the oem horn in the garage, but when I tried the supertones for the first time he shouted from the house "what was THAT?" . Testing them even with short bursts in a closed garage is borderline painfully loud.

The OEM horn is so gutless and it makes me embarrassed to use it. I will definitely do this when I have the time to order the horns and go pick them up.

the only person that should be embarrassed is the person cutting you off for driving like an idiot.

black plastic pop-clips on top, 2 SS screws behind, push-tabs at the bottom of the grill. Youll probably need a stubby phillipshead screw driver for the screws and maybe flathead for pop-clips

There are four screws, on at each "corner" basically. Easy to see with a flashlight. You'll need a stubby screwdriver, or a flexible screwdriver attachment (what I use since I don't have a suitable stubby). It's got an led light on the end which makes it easy to see what you're doing.
