Unhappy Well, my 2005 2.5RS is wrecked and in the shop... (details inside) *BWW*

hey Gang,

well before I could even post pictures of my baby the car is wrecked. Was driving too fast the other day and hit the median, jumped it, caught air, slammed down and into the sidewalk on the adjacent side. I quickly turned off the engine as smoke and steam was coming out, and looked at my front tires and said:

"FUCC(#I@KL!"

Everyone was okay, I had a passenger in the front and one in the rear. We all walked away from the accident with only sore backs. The entire suspension is shot, the brakes are toast, the wheels are shot to hell, I'm sure the front and rear axel are F'ed. There is a hole in the front bumper and scraps all along it.

The engine is still running fine though, no issues with that, however my concern is that the frame is bent and the car is going to be considered a "total" loss due to all the crap that is going to need to be replaced / repair to factory spec. Either way, two things of which we were lucky and I thank God for:

1.) The spot we hit the median, there were no trees. The median had trees planted in it, except for the part we hit. Amazing that no exterior damage was done to the car at all. (extensive like windows, body etc)
2.) There was no on-coming traffic. Had there been, we would've been screwed.... literally.

So I'm heading home because I forgot my cell phone at the apartment and I need to get it in case someone calls from the dealer/ insurance is in need of contact with me.

I'll get my memory stick from my camera as I took shots of it and add it to the post later on. They are high res so I'll probably but a BWW on the topic.

This sucks, I miss my subbie and I want her back.

EDIT:

here are all the pictures. Bandwidth Warning. And seriously guys, keep the flames to a dull roar.

More coming.

What caused you to veer in to the median?

Too much speed and oversteering. Honestly though I mean driving at that point is instinct.

why were you going so fast? just take more care next time in driving - you drive 10-20 miles over the speed limit but you end up saving at most 2-4 minutes of time

you survived, your freinds were okay, and no other property was damaged. These are the main things. Insurance will fix or buy your car, and you have lessons learned for the next time. But, yeah, slow the f**k down.

It is an 05, so there will have to be a lot of damage for the insurance to call it totalled. I hope that you sprung for the GAP insurance though. Otherwise, you are going to be so upside down its not even funny.

Good luck!

To me it sounds like you (a)cant drive (b) are too immature to handle a car on the roads or (c) all of the above

How has were you going? How does the road look (turns, long striaght)?

Sucks about your car but hopefully it will teach you to slow down to a speed were you can actually control your car.

Relax and don't worry about the idiots posting about your driving ability. They want you to respond to it, it gets them off. The important thing is that you take a lesson away from this, as others have said. I find that on the internet, there are a ton of people who never make mistakes. It's too bad they hide in their houses, never going out into the world. With the perfection they obviously possess, they could probably really make a difference...

I'm sorry, I laughed when I first read this thread.

But seriously guys, there's no reason to talk down to the guy, everyone makes mistakes.

BTW: 3DF, incase you haven't realized, every NASIOCer here is a professional race car driver so take what they say with the utmost regard.

take the insurance money for the rims and suspension an buy better rims and tires and suspension....

its all good...i have been in a few accidents and there a lot of people on this board that like to preach like they are driving gods. chalk it up as an experienced learned and just try to avoid it next time.

anyway, glad to hear everyone is ok and the car doesn't look that bad.

can you pop the hood? just curious if the top strut mount is damaged on that drivers side wheel.

Default totalled?

I'm not so unconvinced it's not totalled. Although it may look OK, you're not taking into account that even a small frame bend, especially if it's in multiple places can be VERY expensive, plus, even just buying OEM rims, tires, and suspension pieces will come to SEVERAL thousand dollars, not to mention replacing and repainting any damaged panels, remember, technically, they have to fix it to be perfect, not just good

Expounding on a few things said earlier
1) if you don't have GAP, make SURE they don't total the car, do ANYTHING to keep them from totalling it, because you'll be in the hole 5K minimum, depending on your taxes and fees.

2) If it's not totalled DON'T fix it with OEM parts, take the cash, buy nicer wheels (for less) and upgrade the suspension as well. When some moron wrecked 2 of my OEM wheels on my celica, I was able to afford an entire set of 4 for the price of 2 OEM ($315 apiece!!)

Looking at the pictures, it won't be a total. I've seen cars worse than that go through here that didn't get totaled. PM me and I can fax or send you the parts breakdowns for your subframe/axles/wheels/bumper cover etc. You can't tell everything from a photo, but all your door seams look even and your hood looks like it's still straight. Your frame is probably fine. Granted, I wasn't there and pictures are never a substitute for real life, but it looks like it's a repairable. Glad to see someone taking accountability, it's a refreshing change. At least you don't have a turbo to spool at 12 mph Good luck and be careful.
