Default Help! Driver window won't roll up! Its about to rain :o

So I just rolled the window down in my 98 Legacy GT, and now it wont go back up.

The window doesn't look out of place at all. I can hear the motor when I push the button down. But I can't really hear it when I hit up. My button seems a little loose too, but not that bad.

Its about to rain, and I live in an apartment complex, with a deck and speakers in my car.

Thanks in advance, i'll reply to this thread asap if anyone has questions.

It's probably the switch, the contacts seem to wear out after a while... I had the same problem and had to replace it.

Just the switch? Or the whole panel?

And, where/how much?

Thanks

It's the entire panel... all 4 switches are in one unit. You can get a used one on eBay, but I ordered a new one from subaruparts.com. I don't have the part # off hand, but if you take apart your door, it's probably labelled on the switch.

After digging around, I've heard mention of a reset procedure for the windows (turning the ignition at certain times with the button held down) but I can't find the specifices anywhere.

At least the window didant fall down into the door like my GL turbo's did. That car got crushed shortly after that.

hey your gonna need to buy a new window switch anyway. so in the meantime if your motor works then find your motor harness and just plug two wires using butt connectors and touch power and ground to like a 9 volt battery. the window should go up then to go down just reverse the process it may be kinda ghetto or rigged up but it'll do untill you find a switch ok

You could also take apart your rear door and run a couple wires with leads to that switch and put up your window. That's what I did when I was waiting for my new switch to come in the mail.

I just got a new window switch, works fine now.

For anyone else with this problem:

Its called "window switch left" or master window switch". Retails for $109, i called Lithia Subaru in Oregon City and told them www.subaruparts.com had it for $83 and they pricematched it. Really quick/easy install.

use pliers and a cloth (to protect window) to grab and assist the glass in an upward motion (quick fix)

then its tool time!
