Default Jack/lift points on 07 Impreza Wagon

How do you guys lift up your Impreza to change the oil? There is no center brace to lift the front of the car up with. Do you do one side at a time with floor jacks?

On my previous 05 OBS, I believe there was a central jack point in the font of the car. It kinda looked like a a bump facing down about 1 foot back or so.

I found it Thanks. Jack is way too short to reach, let alone jack the car up. Managed to get the oil without jacking the car up, however the oil filter is being a PITA! Any other suggestions on that? May have to run to the store for a adaptor for a 3/8 ratchet and extension.

Sandpaper. Get a piece of sandpaper, fold it smooth side to smooth side. You you have a grippy side for the filter and a grippy side for your hand. Ghetto as hell, but works every time! I had to do it on my last change two weeks ago as apparently I put my filter on a touch too tight the time before.

I'm surprised I'm the first to jump on this... Do NOT use a jack to support your car for oil changes. Either put the car on jackstands or use ramps. Getting under your car with only a jack supporting it is VERY dangerous.

I use ramps, myself. Works great.

Mike

PS... If you meant jacking the car up PRIOR to placing jack stands, then ignore my rant.

No worries about the saftey tip Jack the car up, put it on jackstands, then get to work

Anyways, after hopping on the bike to run to the store to get the fancy craftsman universal filter wrench, then finagling a way to get the 3'ton jack under the front jack mount, I got it up in the air, and got the filter off. The 95 degree weather and 100% humidity doesn't help either.

I'll be damned I did not try sandpaper, I tried a rubber/leather glove, no go. I will say this, next time, I will be installing if they even make, a oil filter relocation kit, to me the placement of this filter is the silliest place to put it. Like playing operation with a hot manifold, kevlar gloves and sleeves anyone?

Thanks to all who helped! One more year and I can finally get my rotary lift installed

Wait....I'm not familiar with the '07s, but did they relocate the oil filter to a new spot? The filter on my '03 is directly underneath, next to the oil pan....IMHO, there couldn't be a better spot for it. It's super easy to get to and there's minimal mess when removing the filter. Maybe that's one advantage of having a bugeye.

It's the 2.5 in the '07, a little different from the 2.0 but not much. I think that it's about the same amount of room, maybe a little more (in the NA 2.5) . I agree it's not bad at all, could be much worse. I use channel locks to free up the filter if I can't get it started, and bundles of cardboard for each tire 3" thick to drive up on.

The easiest ever was my 4X4 Tacoma. It looked lifted (stock), and the engine was about 1/3 of the compartment. You could practically crawl under the thing with no ramps/jack. Loved it but it sucked to drive on the highway, hence my love affair with Subaru.

I really love my oil filter cap wrench. I got a whole set of them at Harbor Freight for about $5 and they work like a charm. And there's no reason to lift the car for an oil change - especially if you put in a Fumoto drain valve.

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread but since I'm still a nooby here I can't start new threads yet.

Does anyone have a picture of the floorjack point under the engine of the '07 Impreza Wagon? When I change the oil I use ramps but sometimes you just have to have the wheels off the ground too. Any help would be great.

BTW, I picked up an oil filter wrench from Subaru (or was it Mazda?) that fits right on the OEM Subaru filters, easy as can be.
