Default Widest tire that will fit inside GD wheel well

Hey,

I want to add wider tires to my 05 STi for more grip in a practical sense.

In order to fit those lower offset ("hella-flush") wheels inside the fenders, most guys likely need to run a tire width that is narrower than the wheel width. This results in slanted sidewalls. Basically, the full potential of the wheel width is not realized.

My question is, what is the widest tire (and ultimately, widest wheel) that will fit inside of the a GD wheel well without inboard/outboard rubbing issues, have sidewalls that are vertical and not slanted, and still be practical?

Thanks,
Daniel.

What are your suspension mods? And how much are you willing to do to the fenders?

No suspension mods at the moment. I am planning on doing some tweaking soon. I was thinking GroupN mounts, ALK, roll center adjustment, camber bolts, outrigger bushings, and springs (not sure whichs ones). If I need to roll fenders I will.

This is more to satisfy my curiosity at the moment.

255s on a 17x8.5 or 18x8.5 or 17x9 or 18x9 with +45 offset will fit inside the wheel wells just fine with a rear fender roll.

265/35 on 18x9 +35

No rubbing inboard or fender, with:
9k/7k Zero2R
-2.5F/-2.0R camber (PDE plates)
Rolled F/R fenders
Nitto NT05 (might rub inboard liner with a tire that's wider for this size)

Occasional daily driver but mostly for autox SM/local street tire category.

there's no way you'd get inboard rubbing with a +35 even with a 275/35/18.

At full lock it'd rub for sure (in a parking lot), though not something I'd be concerned with at speed.
