Default Boston to Burlington, VT via VT-100

I'm taking a trip to Burlington for the weekend because none of my friends in Cambridge are around and its BORING. I've heard that 100 in Vermont is one of the nicest roads to drive in America so I thought I'd check it out. I have all day tomorrow so I have no problem adding a couple of hours onto my drive.

Can anyone suggest a good route to Burlington incorporating route 100? I'm thinking I'll take 2 West to 91 North and then hop onto 100 somewhere after that. Is it worth driving as much of 100 as possible or should I skip the first bit?

Thanks.

I've driven Rt100 from the MA line to the Jay Peak area, it really is a great road. You can actually take Rt2 all the way over to 100 just past Greenfield MA, or you could get off exit 2 in VT and take Rt9 over to Willmington. You'll pass almost every major resort in the state, so you'll hit lots of towns with cool places to eat.

IME 60 is fine on Rt100, but respect the towns and slow down to the local limits

+1
I've done it in the winter, and it's a pretty nice ride. I bet it's 10x better in the summer without snow tires.

If the length of the trip is not a concern, then this is my favorite "time waster" method for getting from MA to Burlington.

Take Rt 2 out to 140 North onto 12 North up to Fitzwilliam, NH, then take 119 all the way over to Brattleboro, VT.

From Brattleboro, follow 9 to the center of VT and pick up 100 there.

Follow 100 all the way up to Warren/Waitsfield, then take 17 east over to 116 North. Trust me, you WANT to drive this road!

116 North will take you into Burlington.

If you want a little scenic rally history related side trip, take Pond Road (left onto a dirt road after you go past 2A) over to Dorset or Spear St and take one of those up to Burlington. Find yourself a copy of Buffum & Co (I think there are clips from that movie floating around the internet). The (cough, cough) "Private practice road" they mention in the film...

Now if you REALLY want to waste time as you are coming up 100, take 73 (Ripton Gap) from 100 to Rt7, then 7 up to 125 (Lincoln Gap) back over to 100 up to 17 over to 116.

I recommend taking 91 up to Exit 2, then over 9. Rt. 9 is very nice, whereas Rt. 100 south of where it meets with 9 is not so nice.

Looks like the plan is gonna be 2 W to 91 N to 9 W to 100 N to 89 N. Thanks for all your help. I'm gonna be taking pictures so I'll post some up when I get back.
