Audi Spring Drive from Minooka to Ottawa, IL. . .all cars welcome!!
See my post in this thread
And here's the info direct from the ACCCC site: "May 18th -- Fourth Annual Spring Drive. The Chicagoland Chapter is holding a Spring Driving Tour through the Illinois River Valley area of North Central Illinois on Sunday, May 18th. This is a scenic drive through some very picturesque and winding public roads. We will meet at 9:00 AM in the McDonald's parking lot at the northeast corner of Ridge Road (Exit 122 on Route 80) and Minooka Road (1/2 mile south of 80) Minooka, IL. The route is approximately 100 miles, so be sure to start with a full tank of gas. The registration fee is $5 per car for Audi Club North America members and $10 per car for non-members. The pre-registration deadline is Tuesday, May 13th. Participants who have not pre-registered will pay $15 on the day of the event. You can pay via PayPal by clicking here to register or mail your check to: Audi Car Club Chicagoland Chapter 662 South Parkside Street Elmhurst, IL 60126 The event will conclude when you arrive at Hank's Farm Restaurant in Ottawa, IL (approximately between noon and 1:00 PM). We have a room reserved for those that would like to stay for their Sunday Brunch Buffet. The brunch is $10.95 per person (plus tax and tip). When registering, please indicate how many people will be attending the Brunch. If you have any questions contact Joe Stramich at [email protected] or call 630-833-0442." Like I stated in the other thread, my GF's family lives in Ottawa and we've been to Hank's a few times. Very good food and atmosphere. Ottawa and the surrounding areas are very hilly and windy roads. It'll be a good time. . . WRXemALL david |

I gotta pay someone $10 to drive on public roads? What's to stop me from just following this convoy without forking over the $$?

I think you get a map of the whole area and the route that is being taken.
It's only $10, though? It's not like they charge 50 or something. . . WRXemALL david |

Ok, who's going to bite the bullet and bring back the map? I've got one of lower-mid Wisconsin from a few years ago that was an excellent drive as well. Was planning on one day holding a drive up there, but never got around to it.

Something like this, Nick? I found it in chicagomotorcycleguide.com. Plenty of other good ideas there too. (The annoying background at the site gives me a headache, tho' ):

John - Actually the route I'm referring to is at 12 & 50 (in WI) and ends up in a town west of there a little bit. It's 100 miles of farm and forest-type roads. Nice drive... one of these days I'll have to run it again and make sure everything is still there, then organize a day for all of us to head up there.

Nick,
I'll bring back a map for us to do our own if people don't want to pay the 10 to come along on this drive. WRXemALL david |

Well, honestly I'd love to come along, but I can't afford it. This is the most miserable unemployment time I've had just because I can't travel at all... no cash for anything. :-/

I did this last year for there fall drive. Very awesome time you get a map and you will need a nagavator because you have to pay attention to all the details like your trip odometer and street signs. Believe me there are some streets that are not marked because of the back country roads your on. Every one starts in 2 min intervals and who ever makes it to the destination with the most accurate amount of miles and time will win prizes. Its a very good time.

That sounds like work... Does that mean we can't speed?
Here's an idea: Let's start at the back and see how many Audis we can pass. |

No you can speed but I doubt you will pass some of the audi's. The only ones you will pass are the older crowd that is in it for the drive. But most of the autox crew I would say good luck in passing them.

You know, I just realized... the drive I went on that I got the map was with that Audi group, 3 years ago now. They'd probably remember me... I was the Subaru guy that won the REAL nice framed Audi mid-80's rally car poster.

Hey David, you mentioned a fee wich at first made me not interested, but if there are prizes that the money will go towards paying for I don't really mind that. So the question is, is there prizes?
I'll have to think about this one, but if enough of our guys go then I'll probably be up to it. On a side note this sound like a great idea. I'm not familiar with the area that it will take place, but it sounds as if it's a rual area? I should put one of these together back in MO around my home town lots of back roads and a couple of mini dragon-like roads, one of them was used in a BMW commercial shoot..... |

Andy,
I don't know what kinds of prizes there will be for this. I go to school with Joe (WRX_Wagon02) and a member of that Audi club (silver Audi that came along on our sheridan drive) so I will get more info and post here. Nick, If you wanna go, I will spot you the registratation fee, but gas and food are on your own. Also, if you don't wanna drive, you are welcome to ride along with me or Joe. WRXemALL david |

Thanks for the offer, but burning up gas isn't an option for me, it's a definite.
Regarding the entry fee, basically they have run the course several times, then did pace notes on corner-to-corner turns, distances, landmarks, etc, made a nice color map with everything outlined and whatnot. For $10, it's really worth the drive. The instructions say non-competitive, but when we were up in WI, it didn't seem that way. For example, it was 100 miles and we stopped at the halfway point for 15 minutes... we still finished in an hour and a half (Subaru guys leading, of course). |

Ok, I'm interested too, but my problem is I don't have a co-driver. Is it possible to do this solo?

It's usually fairly tough to do something like this on your own. You have to check pace notes, keeps your eyes open for roads, and drive all at the same time.

since i cant attend on that day, would someone be willing
to sell me a copy of the map for $10? that would be cool. i really dont care for these big events because too many cars get in my way, but i can use the map and go out there on my own or with the wife or with my local buddies when its not busy (like take a day off work). |
