Default No replacement parts for 2015 WRX?

This morning I hit a box on the highway and apparently it knocked off the cover to my passenger side foglight/turn signal. After calling multiple dealerships I've been informed it's on back order until August.

Before anyone chimes in to say "it's a brand new model, blah blah blah" understand that the part is not an accessory, I have a hole in my bumper with it missing. Point here to SOA - if you're gown to make and sell a car, at least have the parts ready and available because accidents don't wait 6 months to happen.

Is it the end of the world?

BTW, a manufacturer can't control when a rise in demand is put on a part putting it on backorder either. This happens to ALL products.

Did you actually read my post? It's not a rise in demand, SOA simply doesn't think people need replacement parts so close to launch, so they allocate them all to production. I've had at least 10 dealerships tell me so this morning, even SOA customer service.

As for your first world problems wisecrack, both lights are now fully exposed. And I don't think it's asking for too much to not have a big exposed portion of my bumper and not basic parts available (or with a reasonable bad order).

I thought this was quite common with new vehicles, from many (all?) manufacturers. I know I've heard about it many times.

In my experiences, dealerships didn't have them in stock but could order them within a reasonable period of time. It's just absurd.

Yes I read the post. The demand for these parts are high as SOA is building cars and thus the supply for everyone else is low and why it is on backorder.

You bought a new body style very early in the year and surprised/upset at what has happened?

I had to wait 3 months for a replacement part for my car once. That part also rendered it non driveable. I did not go on a forum complaining about it. Things happen.

Don't think I am giving you **** for the sake of doing it. Yes your situation does suck a little, but sometimes people come on here to bitch about things that really are not the end of the world and is nobody's fault, it just happens.

There are far worse things to complain about.

I understand new body style and don't expect instant gratification. However, waiting several months for a very basic part that is extremely easy to produce is insane. Especially considering the part is included in the fog light kit, which is readily available for order.

It's not insane. It's completely normal. I've worked for various dealers for over 20 years. Parts for recently launched cars are always hard to get with a long wait.

No, you do not understand. All of the part production is going towards new cars and accessory kits. You are very likely the first person in the country looking to order one. This is not a very basic part. Even in an accident they are typically reusable and put into the new bumper cover. You caused this incident, now you have to wait.

You could try going to a body shop and see if they can get one for you. Maybe they aren't available yet for normal consumer channels, but they should be available to body shops...

Bodyshop will get it from the dealer or an aftermarket supplier(if it is even available) that they have accounts with.

Does not work that way. Backorder is backorder. The dealer can order it on VOR, but that only means they will be top priority over stock orders.

As BF says, that might be able to get an aftermarket one, but I doubt that as those are not typically reproduced (like a bumper cover) and even if they did it will take even longer for the aftermarket to catch up as they need one to make a mold off of. No dealer parts = no parts for molds (they're not going to buy a complete car to mold a single part)

....so i guess you found out the hard way that buying a brand new car/brand new model as soon as it hits the dealer MAY not be as good an idea as you thought it was

RIGHT??

Well there were 3 in the country and I managed to get one from a dealership in Connecticut. I guess I've just been spoiled by VW releasing models earlier in Europe and thus having available parts for the US launch.

I learned this the hard way. The totaled WRX's on Jalopnik last week are at a junk yard an hour from me. I called them to try to get one but they were being saved to sell with the entire front bumper.

If you're talking about the black plastic that houses the fog and indicator lights, you could buy the fog upgrade accessory kit. I think it's $300 or so form dealers who discount parts. Then when they get the part in stock, buy your plastic kit, and sell the fog kit.

Yes it's a hassle, but you can get the car fixed ASAP. Sounds like you managed to find one though.
