Man that sucks for sure. I know what you are going through. I have driven my car a total of about 15K miles since I bought it in January of 2005. I have had more problems then most, and it does suck when something major happens, but it gives you a chance to build it better.

Was it from oil starvation or something else?

Not too sure. Most likely oil starvation.

Were you leaking/burning oil? I don't remember your car smoking last time I saw it.

Pull the motor this weekend and start the dissection. Hopefully the crank is okay; replace whatever is broken and put the bitch back together. I can't afford a built motor, so only fixing what is necessary will occur...which sucks.

regardless of budget, do these: new crank. don't polish that one, not worth the hassle. and most people cant fix them correctly anyway. new is only around 500 retail, you can probably find them cheaper, just dont go used, it will bite you. new beraings, rod and mains. you're in there, you have to do the rod bearings, may as well freshen the mains, cheap insurance+higher oil pressure. 08 sti oil pump. the 2.0l has a borderline weak pump. 2.0L's die because of high rpm oil starvation combined with moderate to high detonation. bear in mind that the #2 and #3 rod bearings share an oil port off the center main journal, THEY SHARE OIL SUPPLY!! big pump=much better volume and pressure. if you are doing the work yourself, do not reuse any o-rings to reseal the block and purchase fuji/three bond from the dealer. silicone is not silicone is not silicone. the crap from autozone is not the correct application for the case halves. the amount of squeeze is very important. follow the torque spec in the manual religiously for the case bolts. use arp on the threads, same goes for head bolts. go ahead and replace the timing belt tensioner, you can squeeze it down, but it's still a gamble as to whether it will rattle/knock. replace that tiny idler pulley next to the tensioner too, it fails pretty often due to its size and the whole spinning 2x as fast as the other pulleys, use the one for 257/255. bigger bearing. make sure you get the matching bolt. timing belt wouldnt be a bad idea either, again, 255/257. my condolences in your time of loss, good luck.

Subscribed. I wanna see if its really a broken motor or something else.

Think the donuts in the parking lot might have done it in? Did you ever replace the PS pump you were talking about?
