Need a new floor jack, what and where can i buy?
I need a new hydrolic floor jack as my last one (old Sears model) has blown its seals and won't hold any fluid for more than a day. What and Where have some of you bought lately? I'm looking for brands, online sites and prices. I'm looking for the larger ~2 ton units that has a relatively low (relative to the typical Sears jacks) saddle height. I've heard Norco brand is good and fairly inexpensive.

Get a Lincon, you will find these on line at good prices. If you can, I would get the Snap-on, it has a nice low profile to get under low cars and the pump action on it is great, not like a sears or the orange one that you pump 15 times to get it up to the car. The snap on is more like a nascar jack some thing like only 10 pumps to full 21". There about 350.00 worth every penny There esentialy the same jack but the Snap on guy is easer to get a hold of than Lincon. Make sure you get one of the ones not made in Aisa there are three modles, the one from Aisa and leaks out of the box but the other two are probably the best floor jacks in the world. IMHO

$350??? Holy shmazoli, I suppose if you're into your tools it's worth it, but I'll pump a few extra times and use my $20.00 one.
Of course, I'm only under my car once a week or so, not every day . Got mine from WalMart. Seems to be holding up fine, and if it dies in a year, then another $20.00 for a jack. |

Lot's of options on jacks.
If it's a Sears jack I thought they are suppose to replace it if it falls apart?
I have a Craftsman jack that comes with a plastic case, good for taking to the track. But I do have to pump it quite a bit to get the car up. It's a 3.5 ton jack and 2 jack stands was around $50. I will eventually get a better one from Sears for around $80 which felt real nice when I tried it in the store. For a money is no object jack check out Griotsgarage.com and look at the all aluminum race jack they have. Some guy at one of the track events had it for his Ferrari. it was light and beutifull to look at and use! I am still not sure about the jacking points on the WRX anybody know which spots are safe other than where the stock jack points are? |

Griot's Garage rocks! I don't know where they got my address, but they sent ma a catalog and I was like " okay, I'll take that and that and that.........and......etc!" They have a great hydraulic floor jack in there that will lift lowered cars and everything. They have all the good stuff. It is expensive though!

I also purchase the Sears floor jack in the plastic case. Best bang for the buck. Don't forget to get jack stands.

Jack it up
Andrew,
If you want to lift both rears up, put a block of wood between the floor jack pad and the rear diff protector which is a nice flat plate. Once you have your jackstands in place, the front can be lifted by placing a block of wood between the floor jack pad and the front crossmember. It is just behind the oil pan and has 2 bolts in it. If you use soft wood, the bolt heads just indent the wood and you have a wider contact patch. Place your jackstands at the front factory jack points and your up on all four. Be careful to not bend your pinch-welds at the jack points. If your jackstands will not span the seam, place a small block of wood just inboard of the seam to rest the car on. |

Here's my pick for which jack I'd buy. Nice & low for you with lowered cars. > http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Vaul...ulicjacks.html

"Great maneuverability, due to rounded wheels" They have to specify rounded wheels??? What other type of wheels are there? Looks like a good jack, albeit a bit pricey. /bill |

What about those built in jacks like in JGTC / DTM machines?
Where they attach a hose to the back and i pushes compresses nitrogen gas into it which pushes 4 beams down from the bottom of the car and jacks it up? HOW MUCH FOR THAT? Maybe have the input nozzle in the trunk so no weird holes. Maybe have the compresses nitrogen as a tank in the trunk so you just press a button in the car to activate the system! Am I nuts? How much would this setup cost? |
