Well I saw it at the autoshow in Vancouver. If they get rid of the FMIC then maybe we have a chance.

Why? FMIC aren't illegal in Canada.... but we have stricter bumper laws compared to the US (3 vs 5 mph test)....

I'm pretty sure the SRT-4 passed the Transport Canada test....

It's not an STI, just has the wing (no way dodge got ahold of an STI) and those cars were not stock although they both sound awesome.

From what i can see the video is telling us:

1. Steal your gay brothers car (look at the way he looks at his brother, kinda like he's flirting)
2. Steal some dudes girlfriend
3. Street racing is cool
4. SRT4 is faster than a WRX

I don't think that is a good advertise because:

1. Stealing friend's car --> if accidents happens --> insurance will not cover you, police will charge you.

2. Seems like the advertise is "encouraging" street drag racing and other forms of driving fast (see the guy rush to drop off the gal and rush home --> driving fast, drifting on the road, etc...)

3. stereotyping that people driving a WRX or a "modified" WRX like to race or is bad...

4. if that car is faster than a WRX then why don't they do it on a race track or autocross or other legal race site?

Just some thoughts.

The way that video was shot was PERFECT! It aims right at the age group they want to reel in.

1. The young
2. The "cool" (Yea i'll bone my buddys girl)
3. The stupid (Street racing is cool!!)

That commercial is just so wrong, stock for stock the WRX might loose out in a 1/4 mile on the track that thing will be decimated. Dodge or Chrysler has some shaking suspension work also they are known for shotty transmissions. Also IIRC this is the first turbo car dodge has ever released, I wonder how reliable that thing will be?

no, they had the 2.2L Turbo 174 HP motor back in the '80's that they put in the Dodge Daytona and the Dodge 600, maybe more cars too, but that's the ones I remember.

The Q & A section on the SRT-4 Flash site says that the only current plans are for US availability only and that they are re-evaluating other markets. This reply was similar for both questions about Canadian and Mexican markets. They also state seperately that for 2003 the SRT-4 would be for US market only. The transcription is a few months old so maybe these markets have been re-evaluated. The inclusion of the SRT-4 in Vancouver's Autoshow would tend to indicate this.

I have no fear of this car. We live in Canada; land of ice and snow. These cars won't be on the road for 6 months of the year, and even if they are, they only have 2 wheels to get the power down to the snow. On top of that, this car is pre modded, I haven't even begun to extol the possibilities of the WRX from stock. Lets not forget that despite all the bling this is a Neon. Notorious for rattleing appart, it will only happen faster at higher RPM.
Ciao,

Mark

I did't like the way they did the promo, but it is the market they are trying to push for.

Dodge has the reputation of having produced the greatest number turbo cars of any manufacturer. There have been turbo cars in Dodge's lineup since 84!

SRT-4, while very quick, IMHO doesn't compare to the WRX. I'm a Neon guy, have been since 96, and have decided against the SRT-4 for numerous reasons. Foremost, I don't want a $28,000 Neon.

The SRT-4 will be sold in Canada this summer. Some say June, others say August/September.

-The sticker will be under $28,000, so expect $27,995.
-Depreciation will cut deep into this car after a few years, as all Dodge's do.
-They just aren't up to the standards of the other manufacturers, although they have improved greatly in quality.

One notable fact though, Mopar will support this car like no other in the Dodge lineup. Turbo upgrades (3 stages, up to 300 HP)intakes, exhaust etc - and they're already dynoing at over the rated HP at the wheels. Definitely not the car to race against.
