Trust me, when you can turn a screw staring you in the face without removing the intake manifold it is EASY.

Follow your nose. There are a few fuel hoses on each side of the motor. Look for the rubber hose and hose clamps on either side. Tighten all those screws on the clamps, most of them will be loose.

I'll give it a try when I get home today - thanks!

I'm seriously sick of this problem. Luckily mine only occurs when the temps are below 10 degrees. I just filed a complaint here https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

You're lucky, mine literally sprays gas under 20F. I try not to drive it when it's that cold, luckily I work from home and only use the car for snowboard trips over the weekend.

I don't get it...if it's so bad, why don't you guys get it fixed and bit*h at Subaru later to try for a refund. At least if you get it done by one of their dealers you'd have a shot with them...

Thanks SuperOrb - this was a five minute fix. The hardline on the passenger side near the fender, that clamp on the flexible host was loose drip drip drip once a second. Appalling really. Fingers crossed. Still gonna have the dealer do the 2.0L turbo TSB though.

Another 2005 STI having the same issue. Hadn't occurred previously but the past couple days here in New England have been single digits and the smell of gas started. I'll take a look at the clamps tomorrow and see about contacting SoA if I can't fix it myself.

What 2.0L Turbo TSB? Glad you fixed the fuel leak.

This one: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1893471

The engine compartment between the 2.5L and 2.0L turbo (WRX) is night and day ! Requires pulling the intake manifold to fix apparently.

This just started happening to my car this week.

06 Wrx. Started to happen and the weather was around 10 degrees. I would start my car in the morning before work for about 10 minutes. When I approach the car I can smell gas and when I get inside the car the smell is much stronger. After driving for about 5-10 minutes the smell is gone. Car is running fine, no cel, no signs of leakage anywhere, fuel injuector lines were checked out by mechanic and he said he couldnt find anything. Also happens 8 hours later after work. Anybody have the same issue? if so, how do i fix it.

Thanks

I have the same issue with my 05 FTX, any known fixes that I could do at home quickly?

Sent an email to SoA and made an appointment at my local dealer. He said they've had a couple other identical complaints recently as well. Hopefully SoA can cover at least some it as it's going to be >$500 likely since they need to remove the intake manifold and everything else

It's a bit aggravating that I can see the leak dripping but I can't get to it at all

I called soa and went through the process to get the repairs made, soa came back and said IL is not a cold weather state, my car is. to high mileage. so we will offer a one time convenience $500 I cover rest. Well the job alone is about $1000 so I said thanks for nothing. I even sent a video showing it smoking under the inlet on a -** day, didn't budge on his final offer.

Oh, I thought you meant there was some TSB for the turbo.

I love how the TSB is only for bugeye WRXs and only in certain winter states (****ing Cleveland not included). Nevermind my 04 STi smells like a goddamn gas station. Jerks.

It's the exact same design, it should extend to all cars that utilize that design. Period.

Default having the same problem

I have a 02 and I'm getting the same problem. Haven't taken it get it looked at but definitely having a gas leak. After driving it around I get a very strong smell. Also originally when I first got the car I use to be able to get around 200 miles in the city and now I'm completely empty at 180 miles so it's getting considerable worse.

I've been doing a lot of research and found a picture with some valuable info. Will post more once its been diagnosed.

Hope this helps!

I have a 2005 Wrx and I have the same issue when its really cold.

The dealer said it was NOT covered under a recall.

I don't understand how leaking raw fuel is not something that would be recalled when clearly it's on a ton of vehicles. This blows my mind, it's dangerous but apparently that doesn't matter?

If you made pogo sticks that had a chance of rusty rivets when exposed to salt water.. like at sea-side resorts, would you recall the ones you sold to Texas, or swap the rusty rivets on any affected unit?

2005 wrx here with the same issue as everybody else. I was able to get SOA to pay $500 towards the $1000 (parts+labor) fix. It required my calling SOA, getting a case number, taking it into the dealer and having it left outside overnight, then the dealer replicating the problem and calling SOA with my case number.

I still think it's BS that they're not covering the whole thing but I don't really know what else to do at this point. I could do the labor myself but out of principle really don't want to since I feel like they're dodging responsibility here. <sigh> guess I'll just pony up the $500.

Subaru is really not making a great case for a repeat purchase.

Yeah I think if you can prove you are one of the cars that needs the work, and Subaru knows the problem is their design, they should be fixing it free of charge.

I mean they can make money off you using the vending machines in the waiting area, or by renting you a loaner car, or selling you some floor mats..etc.. It's not like getting owners into the dealership is a bad profit driver..

Do the rusty rivets give off noxious, toxic, flammable fumes into confined spaces while leaking onto an increasingly warm metal mechanical unit?

It's a safety hazard. Period. It's a flawed design, and limit it to certain states or models (while others have THE EXACT SAME DESIGN) is asinine. It was -20 here in Cleveland a week or two ago. That's not cold enough? Bull****.

Neah they pop during use causing broken bones, chipped teeth, etc.. I thought it was pretty clear analogy that the problem needs to be fixed where it exists and only where it's a problem?

If I was a Subaru dealer and my customer has a car that's demonstrating the issue that's all I'd need to get my bills signed and I'd do it under the TSB.
