When you and a fellow employee with a WRX consistently park next to or in close proximity of each other at work for the past 6 months. Yet you have never met.

It can't be that bad right? I'm not burning the clutch a lot or at least I don't think I am lol. I actually minimize the use of my clutch quite a bit. I don't instantly put the clutch in when I break. I usually wait until the rpm drop around 1k-1.5k before I would use my clutch to either go in neutral or downshift. However the only real complaint I had for it in the first week was it catches really high off the floor. My friend who has been driving manual since he got his license and quite knowledgable about cars actually was surprised at how high it catches too. I might not have a lot of experience with manual transmission but I do understand how they operate.

Don't worry about it man, just drive. You'll get better and better as you get used to it. I learned how to drive stick when I was 12, but didn't own a manual car until I was 26. I thought I knew what I was doing when I got the car, then looked back 6 months later and was amazed at how bad I was before. It just takes some time and practice.

Don't ride the clutch and you'll be fine.

You know the sound difference in your car dragging and your flaps dragging.

I already notice I got better lol. I don't jerk the car like I used to the first few days I got it. I think the only time I ride the clutch a bit is when I'm backing out of my garage.

Fun fact though(not sure about the newer wrx/sti's) but my bugeye will crawl through traffic jams in first or second gear, as long as I don't come up on a decent hill and it obviously has a fairly consistent 5-10mph pace.

Yep. And in a few months you'll be rev-matching without even thinking about it and realize how far you've come.

Yeah I did notice that. 1st gear will crawl 5 or a bit less just fine lol. 2nd gear can indeed to around 10mph or so. I did let it drops a bit more than 10 but I'll start to hear the engine struggle.

Yeah I'll probably look back in a few month and be like "wow such a noob" haha. Actually I'm already doing that when looking at myself 2 weeks ago.

And therein lies the beauty of manual transmissions.

Turned my idle up to 1000 rpm on the accessport in traffic and it will just keep rolling in first gear. Saves a lot of leg work

how does that work? You set the launch control to 1000 rpm or some sort of rev limiter?

When you first take off, just let off the clutch in first with no gas, second is a little tricky because you have to have a pretty close rev match at a low rpm.
I suggest trying it in a parking lot away from people to avoid making yourself look bad.

Thanks for the info. I know how to start without using the gas. The other poster was saying he set his AP to 1000 rpm so I was just wondering if he's setting a rev limiter or launch control to 1000rpm or something lol.

You can set your idle rpm with the ap.

There is and idle adjustment on the AP in the tune menu if I'm remembering correctly. There is also a timing adjustment but I don't mess with that. It goes from 0-300 in 25 increments. I turn mine up to 275 and that in my car equals out to 1000 rpm. No rev limit or launch control those are for different things. But in traffic you can take your foot off the gas pedal after you start moving from a dead stop and it will keep the rpms up high enough that you don't have to worry about stalling out or using the clutch. I do a LOT of commuting so anything that makes stop and go or slow moving highway traffic easier to drive in ill find it lol. Test it out. You may need to go up or down on your car depending on mods but you should be able to find a sweet spot to keep her wet lol.

Oooh that's a nice feature. I don't have the AP yet. I'm still waiting for my warranty to run out before getting one. I'm not sure if I can hold off that long though.
